Question regarding the Guardians during character creation

So I've played 2 betas of this game and full service and when you make a character it asks you to pick your guardian and 'birth date' or whatnot. Does this have any real effect on your class or character? I've sort of randomly picked each time and I didn't notice much of a difference. Does anyone know?

No real effect, it changes your characters starting elemental resistances slightly and by slightly I mean you'll never ever notice the difference. The guardians do have a place in the lore however, certain nations worshipping certain ones etc etc usual stuff.

I believe each guardian adds to your elemental resistance. Each guardian provides different stats to these resistances but if I recall, there isn't a huge difference. As for your birth date, that was just thrown in for fun from what I've seen.

I simply used my real birth date and when choosing a guardian, I looked at each of the Twelve and associated each one with a month of the year. Then I chose the one which corresponded to the month I was born (September).

oh I see haha I chose randomly and ended up with a birthday in January lol
