For the people who say SMN doesn't do dmg, go run a parser. Calculate total of SMN + pet at the end of dungeon run, you will see a good SMN (who knows the class) has more damage then everyone. Go run it.

I'm still 41, but honestly before those couple of threads here I've never thought I was doing any less dmg than anybody else...
I agree, I may only be level 40, but I have noticed that I'm probably doing the same, if not more, dps than the others aside from BRD. Another little thing to throw out on the discussion table is this; we have a lot of utilities, while we may be a DD, it's important to weigh in our debuffs, buffs, and our ability to off tank / off heal. Let the other classes out damage us, we play in groups, it isn't a contest to see who can cause the most damage. We all play our role within the group, let the BLM melt faces, and we'll heal him when he pulls aggro while the main healer is focusing on the tank. Look at the whole picture, that's what makes SMN beautiful.
The summoner does not need buff. He needs some QOL changes. There are so many things that are so wrong and making it sometimes difficult to do what we are supposed to do.
But I have a question for you Kevee... when I use raging strike (the 20% damage buff from archer) and then dot the mob... I can't refresh my dot when the buff is gone... the mob is "unaffected"... that is really frustrating -_-
Am I missing something here ? Thanks for the answer !
You can't overwrite a stronger DoT with a weaker DoT. It's a good/bad thing because of the universal DoT timer. It could tick in that last .5s that the debuff is up.But I have a question for you Kevee... when I use raging strike (the 20% damage buff from archer) and then dot the mob... That is also one of the nuances people need to learn to time with SMN. You need to time your casts, and the spells animation/application time, to be able to put the debuff back up right after it wears off from RS. Contagion is very useful with RS, btw. THE DEBUFF HAS TO COMPLETELY WEAR OFF BEFORE YOU CAN RE-APPLY IT!
The other thing to note about RS is that the DoT retains the full damage bonus throughout the whole duration, even if RS wears off mid-timer. Optimal rotation will have you re-applying Bio right when RS is about to fall off, maximizing a lot of timers and 2 fester casts per RS.

It's because your dots are weaker without the buff, and can't overlap the buffed dots. The summoner does not need buff. He needs some QOL changes. There are so many things that are so wrong and making it sometimes difficult to do what we are supposed to do.

Dixa don't bother everyone said the things that need to be improved or changed. You are not going to convince Kevee or nimuniverse of anything we just have to wait for square to make the appropriate buffs and changes. I am just enjoying my hellfire war- I mean black mage.
Changes will come in time.

When you guys are counting dps from the smn are you taking into the effect the amount of dmg ifrit is dumping on people. I have noticed it makes a big big difference. Smn is damage over time class. The damage out put of the smn might not match other dps classes, but with the pet smn do hold their own. They are a pet class, not a solo with out pet dps class.
Garuda is included (no one bothers to use Ifrit) in their damage, yes. Garuda does almost the same damage as Ifrit, is ranged, and has the DoT extension, so there is right now no reason to ever use Ifrit. When you guys are counting dps from the smn are you taking into the effect the amount of dmg ifrit is dumping on people. Enkindle on Ifrit is better than Garuda, and for the purposes of DPS'ing a boss Ifrit is superior. The DoT extension is only nice when you have to deal with adds and don't want the dot's to fall off while you deal with them.
Ifrit also has a stun for an interrupt in ase you don't have a paladin in the group.
