Thats a rather large leap. typically what it means is they are managing their hate better.
That is not an indicator of SMN putting up fantastic damage numbers.
A number of things i see wrong with this thread after reading through all these pages. First of all, do no compare any other dd to bard, they were designed to be stronger than everyone else while not singing because they are much weaker than everyone else when they are(-20% damage). Second, they are one of the best DD(second to only bard) at keeping uptime on bosses while everyone else is running to avoid mechanics they have a movement nuke(ruin 2) and DoTs rolling. You will realize how good the class is once u stop looking at bard abilities and going "derp bard is better" but i guess bard is the only dd that exists. In worse case bard is too powerful, doesn't mean other classes (especially summoner) are weak or useless.
giving up on my arcanist for now. The concept of this class that was in my head ended up being completely different from the execution. DPS through DoTs just doesn't interest me. Also reading about how poor the controls of the pets are is distressing. I'll come back to this class once SE sees fit to change it (if they do at all) Time to BRD it up!
I feel like the big problem with SMN comes from SE not knowing what to do with it in relation to SCH.
As it stands now, SCH can do nearly the same DPS as SMN (you lose Fester and pet damage, but get Selene's haste, Aero and Cleric Stance). It really feels like SCH was designed first, and then they just switched the Faerie for the Egi's and called it a day without doing much tweaking. The real fixes I see are a base 10% damage buff for the Egi's, Fester not requiring Aetherflow, and giving SMN a trait that causes Bane to actually apply Bio, Bio II and Miasma instead of just spreading it. It would give SMN single-target damage that's more on-par with the other classes that don't have to worry about pet management/dot upkeep, and will let them get dot stacks rolling on trash/fates/adds much quicker.
Would like to know how are her stats set up. I do perfectly damage and dots and I consider summoner a dps job and acn a dot class isn't why we were given a choice to choose btw smn and sch. will smn always will be a damage dealer. am a full time SMN so looking forward to doing testing these weeks to when am not busy.Y'know, I was with you right up to about here. I haven't seen many trash mobs that take more than about 20-25 seconds to die. It's extremely rare that I cast Windbiter more than once per mob, because by the time it wears off there's not enough health remaining to make it worth the cooldown. If mobs are really taking you this long, I have to wonder just how low your DPS is. . .

Nim,
While I love seeing people love their class in any game. You can not make an argument to say that SMN is amongst the top, even in AoE.
I love dot classes. And mained a lock and SPriest in wow for a long time. Multi-dotting is awesome but unfortunately u will cause more aggravation then is needed by breaking CC if its being used. Secondly, when it comes down to it, trash DPS really doesn't matter end game, unless u have a boss that is focused around AoE(rare).
I see SMN being awesome in PvP, and I think they should give them more support abilities. But top dps... Is not a title they hold yet.
Im doubtful about the pvp part unless they up our burst a little bit, give us mobility (via instant dots) or some kind of reliable cc since we need time to work our magic. I have a feeling SE will be leery of reworking dots since it will affect Scholar dmg as well. I have a feeling any SMN buffs we have coming will affect our SMN defining abilities such as our Egis and Fester.
My wishlist looks like this:
1) Make either Bio 2 or Miasma 1 Instant
2) One of our dots should have 50-100 up front damage.
3) Increase the time Bio 1 ticks by 2.
4) Increase the aoe range of bane to 10 meters
5) Either increase Tri Disaster damage and reduce its cast time or make it instant.
6) Remove dot requirements on Fester for reliable add burst we have to plan for.
7) Give us a Reliable Stun, root or dare I say fear.
8) Have Fester apply a 9 second moderate dmg dot.

Bane doesn't wake up monsters period. After each tic while the monster is slept and tank is neglectful you can take hate and when it wakes it comes for you. Also for NM fights like ifrit titan etc. we wouldn't wanna use bane anyway we'd use Fester... and for FATEs on SMN SOLO I get gold ranks almost every time even when the monsters disappear and you have to move around to have it repop on the screen. SMN might not be the "best" DD or the "best" healer but SMN can do more then just smack the monster in the face! SE made limit breaks and classes ALL useful so one isn't "over powered" or "unused" why we only have 1 DD animation for limits with the buster sword. IF something is wrong SE will fix it otherwise it's players NOT knowing how to play the job that causes problems. The game is JUST launched and end game has just begun if that... I'm not lv 50 SMN i'm only lv 45 and I may not be into all the math and mumbo jumbo you guys talk but I MAKE the job useful
