SMN - knowing the class (part 1)

1 question guys , im the only that after using enkindle DONT NOTICE ANYTHING? i was expecting a huge explosion of earth , wind or fire in the enemy (flare any1?) , but .....after using it for a while.....the garuda enkindle isnt even noticiable , i wonder if even works sometimes ._.

Yup I expected an awesome pet class but i got a (poor IMO) dot class with the pet being the side show right now I shelved my summoner until they make changes and leveling a new character who is a black mage level 37 right now.

You have spell effects for all other players turned off, and your pet is flagged under that. If you turn on all spell effects you will see the flashy explosion.

Summoner seems pretty decent thus far. It has a ramp up time, but thats not awful for while tanks are moving things into the position they are going to be tanked etc. Obviously it is hard to tell without a working damage parser, but the potential damage assuming multiple targets for DoT spreading / shadow flare / pet aoe should be extremely high.

A number of things i see wrong with this thread after reading through all these pages. First of all, do no compare any other dd to bard, they were designed to be stronger than everyone else while not singing because they are much weaker than everyone else when they are(-20% damage). Second, they are one of the best DD(second to only bard) at keeping uptime on bosses while everyone else is running to avoid mechanics they have a movement nuke(ruin 2) and DoTs rolling. You will realize how good the class is once u stop looking at bard abilities and going "derp bard is better" but i guess bard is the only dd that exists. In worse case bard is too powerful, doesn't mean other classes (especially summoner) are weak or useless.

giving up on my arcanist for now. The concept of this class that was in my head ended up being completely different from the execution. DPS through DoTs just doesn't interest me. Also reading about how poor the controls of the pets are is distressing. I'll come back to this class once SE sees fit to change it (if they do at all) Time to BRD it up!

I feel like the big problem with SMN comes from SE not knowing what to do with it in relation to SCH.

As it stands now, SCH can do nearly the same DPS as SMN (you lose Fester and pet damage, but get Selene's haste, Aero and Cleric Stance). It really feels like SCH was designed first, and then they just switched the Faerie for the Egi's and called it a day without doing much tweaking. The real fixes I see are a base 10% damage buff for the Egi's, Fester not requiring Aetherflow, and giving SMN a trait that causes Bane to actually apply Bio, Bio II and Miasma instead of just spreading it. It would give SMN single-target damage that's more on-par with the other classes that don't have to worry about pet management/dot upkeep, and will let them get dot stacks rolling on trash/fates/adds much quicker.

Raging Strike from archer + dots then Garuda's dot extension = mmmmmmmmm + fester crits for over 1200 in AF gear and ifrit weapon with raging active.

While I love seeing people love their class in any game. You can not make an argument to say that SMN is amongst the top, even in AoE.

I love dot classes. And mained a lock and SPriest in wow for a long time. Multi-dotting is awesome but unfortunately u will cause more aggravation then is needed by breaking CC if its being used. Secondly, when it comes down to it, trash DPS really doesn't matter end game, unless u have a boss that is focused around AoE(rare).

I see SMN being awesome in PvP, and I think they should give them more support abilities. But top dps... Is not a title they hold yet.

You can say this for any class that is not bard. My parses are close to any other dps and it doesn't even track my strongest DoTs. That tells me they are competitive in both AoE and single target fights. Perhaps you are seeing something i am not but i highly doubt there is any summoner that too much of a gear gap that is higher than mines but they are fine from my gear level(i dont wear AF and a good weapon). If you guys are talking that the leveling damage than ill just leave you to your devices.

no where did i say that smn dps is terrible or not competitive, nor did i mention anything on gear levels, or to leveling damage. I was referring to common end game mechanics in MMO's, tactics that the OP were suggesting, and how in common situations they would not always be applicable. But thank you for tooting your own horn. I'm sure ur just epic.
