Can you retry on a 1017 without leaving the game?

If you've got a compatible controller hooked up, you can set the config option to accept controller input while the game is in the background (and play sounds in the background, too, so you know when you got in). Then spam the confirm button on the controller with one hand with the game in the background while browsing the intertubes with the other hand.

I just fire up the game when I get home from work, and let it sit on the start screen. I then try to load my character 5 times every 30 minutes, until I either get in.... or I'm too loaded to play
