I call them my 'baby' because they are so cute and wonderful~! <3
But if I had to pick one, I'd say Character. I don't understand the whole 'toon' thing.

I'm just a bun boy, doing bun boy things.
Character.
I think my preference comes from being an avid reader and occasional writer. I wouldn't ever refer to anything as a toon, even with cartoons - I call them cartoon characters. *shrugs* Habit, I guess.
Characters. In no place does this game EVER mention the word toon, so why call it so? I know that in other games they call them toons, but just keep that to those games, and use the correct term for this game. It really is even a bit insulting to call them anything else.
I call them charatoons.
lmao how ridiculous some of you people are. Do you balk when someone calls a car an auto, automobile, a vehicle, or a ride? Better turn off your TV and computer, and never venture past your fenced yard, you might have your fragile lexicon offended by someone with a different dialect. You might even run into people with a completely different language!
Everyone knows that "horseless carriage" is the proper term for a motor vehicle, anyone who calls it something else is likely a commoner.lmao how ridiculous some of you people are. Different places in the world and different cultures have different naming conventions and we would be intrigued if somebody start using a different term. Using your example, if somebody came up to me in the UK and called a car an "auto" I would notice pretty much straight away. The same could be said for if somebody called it an "automobile" - you would immediately assume they were posh.lmao how ridiculous some of you people are. Same goes for games so I don't think it's an issue being interested in this. I personally use character because this game is a lot less cartoon-like than most MMO's out there, and the name "toon" became a big hit from WoW where the characters are considerably cartoon-like.
Character. If for no other reason than that 'toon' is not an accurate description of what it is, strictly speaking. This game is not an animated cartoon. An avatar is technically the incarnation of a Hindu god, but even that is better than toon and would also be an acceptable description if The Guild hadn't made that word so dirty. Anyone using the word toon I automatically assume suffers from a poor vocabulary or doesn't care about things such as accuracy or using meaningful words. In my experience they're usually annoying or bad players, as well. That doesn't mean it bothers me, just that it reflects poorly on them. If character just takes too long for your poor little fingers to type, char is perfectly fine. As would be avi for avatar.
As a matter of fact, if you told me you just bought a new auto my first reaction would probably be to look at you funny rather than congratulate you. The word you've chosen is not descriptive. You bought an auto what? On the other hand if you told me you were an auto trader that would make perfect sense and not bother me. Synonyms are one thing, but the way you use the language matters.

If you bought an auto, I would tilt my head and wonder if you bought a gun, car, or the evil robot from WALL-E.
If you bought an automobile, I would raise my eyebrow and wonder what sort of classy antique auction sold you that "automobile."
You bought a vehicle...? Was it a ship? A plane? A wormhole? Bus?
And if you bought a ride, well... either you bribed someone for a ride home, or you paid them for...
