Three questions...There is no need to remove spur if you buff enkindle because they are Summoners skill that are a cast on the pet and it will give us a reliable burst. Enkindle does 1144 damage after casting rouse and spur and it has a 5min cool down now Flare does 1144 damage and can be done every 30s after transpose and a few blizzards. To make Enkindle on par with flare the cool down should be reduced to 180s and buff the damage to 3,000.
1. Why do you think Enkindle should be on par with Flare?
2. Why do you think SMN needs any more damage than it already has?
3. Why do you think SMN needs any more burst damage?
Buff Enkindle and remove Fester.
Fair trade?
Replace fester with what?
How do you balance enkindle for regular use, but not overpowered with Rouse/Spur?
How is it going to be balanced to have that type of nuke be free(the pet does it), while still being able to use our charges for ED?
etc
etc
Bad idea.
well an enkindle shift to double the damage, double the cool down wouldn't be the end of the world IMO.
So am I really the only one who thinks that Veil of Wiyu subplot is super lame? A story about a girl who's only defining traits are that she died and had pretty eyes doesn't really seem like much to inspire a legendary weapon. Even sillier that the summoner's relic title is a reference to that eye color (Though it could be worse I guess, at least the summoner title isn't about dying).
That becomes problematic simply because now you have access to a 500 potency nuke with no opportunity cost associated with it. Against any sort of encounter where you need to quickly burn down multiple targets the spell becomes insanely powerful... while still being a largely negligible boost in damage on straight forward fights.
Between the fact that it's an off-action attack and the big boosts we can give it through rouse and spur makes it tremendously tricky to alter. Nevermind the fact that, as it's been said, Summoners are already in an amazing place and are more likely to get nerfed than buffed in the upcoming cycles (Again, I wouldn't be surprised if Wind Blast loses damage).
Sorta wondering how those DPS standings will shake out going into later tiers though in terms of scaling.
This would be a reasonable point if Summoner damage wasn't already quite good. Sure I'd love to have more reliable burst but it's simply not reasonable to expect that right now... Though even with a 3 minute cooldown it'd hardly be reliable burst. The stuff about whether or not it's on par with Flare is irrelevant because it doesn't really matter of it's on par with Flare or not as we're not black mages. There is no need to remove spur if you buff enkindle because they are Summoners skill that are a cast on the pet and it will give us a reliable burst. In 5 minutes fester gives you 4500 potency optimally, ignoring raging strikes boosted ones. 300 potency festers hit anywhere between 800-2k depending on gear, crits, RS, etc but lets assume a common 1k damage fester. Enkindle would be doing around 15k ignoring rouse, spur and crits.
I think this begs a new question, do we even know the damage cap? I'm assuming they didn't do the traditional 9999 since it's been ignored or able to be ignored in most FFs since X
Also I'm not saying i agree with doing that kind of change, but it's certainly neat to think about
Aside from giving Summoner itself Contagion to at least make Ifrit more worthwhile to use, they could always give Ifrit an ability that increases the potency of the master's DoTs on the enemy, balanced to do around the same damage as the extended DoTs from Contagion. It'd provide the choice of wanting to have more "bursty" DoTs with the catch that you'd expend more MP in a given timeframe due to reapplying DoTs more often over longer DoTs that conserve MP and can be used to give more leeway for using Bane.
I've been hit for over 10k by boss specials before, so it's not 9999 towards PLAYERS at least; I'd be surprised if it was towards mobs unless they have a special quest or something when the level cap raises. In 5 minutes fester gives you 4500 potency optimally, ignoring raging strikes boosted ones. 300 potency festers hit anywhere between 800-2k depending on gear, crits, RS, etc but lets assume a common 1k damage fester.
