    Question about Dungeons

Probably a newb question but are we able to find rare weps/items/armor/etc via dungeons?(or any other area) How about rare monsters are they able to be spotted in the game?

I know in Phantasy Star Online you could come across a rare monster that had a chance of dropping a rare item via dungeons. Was wondering if this game worked the same

    Thanks in advance!

You can find weapons and armors in the dungeons, yes but it works a little differently. After the boss and the mini bosses a treasure chest will appear with a random item. You then have 3 options: Need, Greed, and Pass. Need is if it's for your class. Otherwise your only options are Greed and Pass. Greed is for if you want the item, Pass is for if you want to pass it up. Everyone in the party gets to choose an option. Need trumps greed, and greed trumps pass. If 2 people either pick need or greed, a random number will be rolled to determine who gets the item. In a nutshell, only one person in the party can get the item. If you're lucky you'll end up with items each run, sometimes you'll end up with nothing.

There are rare dungeon drops and item sets. They have a green background when you view them in your inventory. You can start collecting a set when you run Satasha, Tam Terra Depot (or whatever it is called), and Copperbell mines. I've not seen anything in the field drop a rare item, though.

Thank you both for your replies. One more question while we're on the subject. How are other dungeons unlocked?

Through story quests. The monsters in the dungeons will be tougher than ones you fight outside. Course the dungeons I've done were still pretty easy if you have a good party.

Its lame I have to advance the story to unlock these things. There the most fun I've had with the game thus game having being able to play with my friend in a good run through of sas.

I hope the game has many more dungeons! :-)
    Thanks for your replies!

Yea, that's my thing too. I like the dungeons but I want to do them on my own time instead of being forced to do it to progress with the story. Other than that, they are fun and are good for a change and I've gotten some decent items.

I've been spoiled playing so many Phantasy Star Online games. They don't require you to play through the story you can jump right in and do dungeons and hunt and grind and party with friends right from the get go. As long as this game has plenty dungeons and variety monsters I'll enjoy it for a good while. It would be great if they let you have access to dungeons without the need of advancing the story tho.

The story illuminates and greatly enlivens the game and is really a lot of fun, I am enjoying it immensely and it makes the game world come alive and have meaning. Other MMOS are really just enhanced shooting galleries with forces interactions mostly around violence. This one has many many options.

Truth to be told, the dungeons are not quite required for the Main Quest aside from the first 3 dungeons, which serve as a tutorial on dungeons and gimmicks.
However, dungeons need to be unlocked through side-quests (which are ultra-short, it's normally an NPC in somewhere in town near wher eyou turn in a main quest that tells you "dungeon over there, go check it" you go over there and unlock the dungeon). Some of those (example: Halatali) are main-quest locked, you can't open them before certain points in the story.
Others (like Aurum Vale and Qarn), however, are level-locked and you need a minimum level before the quest for them appears. These quests tend to appear in towns, though.

You're still L14, or something around that level, by level 20 the next dungeon, Halatali, should open up after the main quest even in that level range (when you learn to convert items into materia)
