If I can change my class to DD/Healer/Tank, why not my companion? After all, they should be able to aid us for our weaknesses (healers to get tank companions as an example). I agree though that this should not be as easy so as spoon feeding it to us, probably in a form of fun, lengthy quest maybe?

@Camate: Can we train only our company chocobos or also our self raised chocobos later?

Because my plan was originaly 3 Chocobos each specialized in one of the 3 roles and 1 or 2 hybrid Chocobos.

Maybe also let me be a Chocobo trainer if it is possible ^^
Raise them, train them and then sell them on the market.

Wow, just simply wow... "we'd like you to look into how you’d like to specialize your companion and focus on acquiring the skills you need to make that happen."

I am sure you wont be stuck with a "poorly allocated" chocobo... but one different from me or the next person just a little, im sure they didnt design this so that you either have a God chocobo or a dud...

I like this it finally gives a little room for individuality!

My question is does any know exactly what it is that raises the rank of the companion? Is it based solely on XP gained from killing mobs while it is out? Does it factor in rewards from the end of FATES? If I have it out when turning in a quest, does the quest reward XP go towards leveling the companion? If its not based on XP gained then is it how many actions the companion performs while in battle?

There's a second XP notification that comes up when you have it out. I'm pretty sure its just from killing stuff because I don't remember seeing it for anything else.

You know, for once I'd like to see a MMORPG. These casual complaints are nothing but begging for more-of-the-same. Choices don't matter without consequences.

Just how many SP can the chocobo earn?

It's quite difficult to spend points wisely if we dont know how many we can get.

Ah I went back through my log and see this now thanks. So the companion doesnt get any of your FATE or quest rewards, or xp bonus either. I was getting 100% bonus on xp and the companions was half of it. So the only way to level companion is to grind mobs or fate mobs. Interesting. I just wish the companions xp bar actually showed how much is needed.

Well there is the open world mob grinding content so many people wanted. Seems the best way to do this is in a party of 4 people and 4 chocobos for a full party and grind FATEs.

I may be mistaken but didn't they say something about breeding chocobos? If you breed them then wouldn't you be able to go equiping different ones as needed according to your job?

    White Knights are idiots.

All of them fail to realize that expansion packs and regular patches can very easily change the dynamic of the game. An ever-expanding and customizable game doesn't fit well with a static, forever locked chocobo.

I don't know about the rest of you, but some day, after some expansion packs, I'd like to see expansions to these mechanics. There will be more roles. More classes. More jobs. And I don't want to feel like I will be less effective at a given role because I hadn't designed my chocobo around a job or role or content patch that didn't even exist at the time I made my chocobo.

In other words: Stop ruining the game with your xenophobia, White Knights. You help nobody. Not even yourself.
