I understand where you're coming from...you think inventory management is part of crafting. I disagree, as do most people.
Jesus christ. Note that I wrote " "dumbing down" = changing the game in such way that you have to think less and do less interesting decisions."

How are mounts changing the game so that you have to overall think less and do less interesting decisions? A decision implies that you have to choose between different options; by removing one option that evidently comes with its costs and benefits, you often simply dumb down the game.

Currently we have travel by chocobo porter: you can afk, cost little gil, but takes significant time. Travel by teleportation: costs higher gil, instant, has "favourite location" feature that introduces interesting choices. Travel by mount: cost no gil, takes significant time, limited afk ability. Return: costs no gil, can only bind to one location, has cooldown.

Removing mounts will lead to having overall less interesting decisions, i.e. dumbing down. Similar argument for removing crystals.

Rewarding in what sense? I find it a bit intellectually rewarding in the sense that I have to take more interesting decisions.
