Eh GW2 and many other mmo allows this, why not FF that is a game much more craft based than any other mmo?

Ok with this idea at the condition it's an option that I won't use
I am the one who craft, so I'll have to take the mats from the retainer, hand to hand, that's what is happening now.
How do you explain you'll craft something in "Podunk" (in the middle of nowhere), using retainer's mats when that retainer is located in one of the main town? Mats are not sentient to use any kind of ether teleportation flow ..
Anyway, that will never be implemented, just because it's not worthy for SE to put some devs on this.

Great point and i am sure many would agree.I love crafting in this game. It has been done extremely well. In fact, its so good I often find my entire inventory is full of crafting materials...as well as my Retainers. I end up having to spend an inordinate amount of time trading back and forth with my Retainer to get the crafting mats I need to keep going..
Either that or least when we hover over some mats or items in the crafting log, while our characters inventory might not have any of the mats showing a (0), it would be nice if it would show us that our retainers have (xx) of that particular item/mat instead of making us run to our retainers to check which retainer has what.
This happens to me a lot since my retainers a littered with crafting mats that i have to filter through to find what i need.
Use this "inconvenience" to train your memory. You'll see you'll remember all what you have, how much units, and where, pretty quickly.

While i would agree with you of course, considering one of my retainers is full and the other one is close to being full, that makes a total of about
5x5= 25 items per page
7x25 = 175 items per retainer
175 x 2=.... see where this is going?
If we were talking about 100 items then yeah, no problem remembering but there are more than 300 items.
Sure i can recall plenty but why should i if a simple system can be put in place.

I propose that SE give us the ability to craft items with ingredients stored in the Retainer's inventory. To make it a little more realistic, I would require that the Retainer actually be summoned so they can "assist" by "handing the materials over" when I need them.
Not only would this make crafting more efficient and fun by reducing non-value added inventory management annoyances but it would leave more of your character's inventory open for precious loot.
Yes though I'd also like a Guild Wars 2 'collectables' system.
Being able to open inventory and deposit items to an account wide master vault in which each item type is separated into it's own special bank - extremely useful.
At the moment I have more of a challenge logistically managing my inventories than I do running dungeons.

Retainers were a mistake back in 1.x, and it is still a mistake now under the current bare bone implementation.
They are:
1. Hard to access, other then limited locations in cities and inaccessible in the field
2. disorganized and unsorted items
3. Inability to determine the total number you have for a given item (ie: 37 in total inv, vs 10 in R1, 20 in R2, and 7 in inv)
4. Ineffective when it comes to gather materials needed for a given "bill of materials"
The old 1.x inventory lack-of-management system needs to go, and a much improved system is way over due.
EDIT:
You can TP from no where to any TP node, so why not your material? Since when a FF game is so limited?

Good idea. But maybe only allow this when crafting in your house when housing gets added.
It makes sense, all ingredients are in reaching distance.
