It basically means that they:

1. Acknowledge a lot of people want to keep them
2. Acknowledge a lot of people want to throw them away
3. Know that there will be a lot of people who discard gear by mistake / regret it and want it back
4. Probably should find a solution that's more than just a simple discard
5. *task goes into the next meeting agenda*

And we all know how there's always that same set of items getting pushed off each week's agenda again and again because something with higher priority keeps popping up.
