Hey guys remember last November when Square said.....

"We won't make a mistake like FFXIV again," he says. "[If] we did, it would be like at the level of destroying the company."

Berating Final Fantasy XIV for its disastrous launch is like chewing out Napoleon for his Russian campaign: It's a little late, and it's been done to death. While the game hurt Square Enix in terms of credibility, its financials took a significant hit as well. In fact, the game's director believes that another misstep of Final Fantasy XIV's magnitude could sink the company, which makes the game's imminent relaunch as A Realm Reborn all the more precarious.

So did they make the same mistake AGAIN? Discuss!

They've made no mistakes - 1.0's mistake was releasing well before it was ready to see the light of day and using an engine not suited for MMORPG play.

The question was more along the lines of "will the majority of the playerbase actually subscribe if the server issues don't get resolved very quickly" and "how badly will the stopping of sales hurt the game". I will subscribe, and I will stay for awhile, but how badly will this hurt them? We have seen server issues like this cripple other games in the past...

I myself have been unable to play for 2 days even though I try for an hour at a time to get on.

That logic (that of the people you're describing) makes no sense to me!

I really want to play this game and I'm angry because I rarely ever get to, so I just won't play it at all...?

It's not my logic, but it happens a lot. A lot of people were taking the game back from the forums I have read. I agree though, why can't you be patient for something you want. I feel ya, but gamers are not logical most of the time....well, consumers in general are not most of the time =p

No. FFXIV's a good game. Sure, it sucks that there are restrictions right now, but they are slowly lifting them as to not overload the servers. Otherwise, what is there really to complain about the game that isn't just a matter of opinion? I may not like the fact that mages for the most part in this game wear a dressy looking thing or a cowl but that doesn't mean the game fails in that respect. It just means I don't like it. They get better stuff later on, anyway.

What do you mean no mistakes? The fact that a great number of players are still getting 1017 days after the "actual" release of the game is a great mistake on it's own. However to detract from it SE isn't the only one to screw up estimating how large their servers should be. But at the same time FF is already one of the franchises that has a massive fanbase(playerbase). Based on that the beta and previous mmo's they should've foresaw that 5000 people a world would never be enough. Look at GW2 with 10K limit on servers on launch and they had full servers and even now gw2 still has a big block of their servers full.

Personally, i only had a problem logging in on Sunday and Monday. The rest of the week was just a matter of trying to log in a few times in a row and i got in with out a single problem. When i tried to log in today, i was 10th in the queue. I wouldn't call it a disastrous launch which could cripple the franchise, but i would agree that it was rather painful that a lot of people couldn't log in. But, not just painful for us, for the FFXIV team as well.

There was a reason why Yoshida-san had an emotional moment during the launch presentation speech. Yoshida-san and the rest of the FFXIV team are incredibly passionate about the game. They do not want to see it fail.

But, if we all would take a step back and really dive into the history of FFXIV since the 1.0 Alpha, all the way up today, we can safely say that the FFXIV team didn't have it easy for these past few years. Ever since the failed launch of 1.0, they had to pick themselves up from the ground and turn the failed 1.0 version into something that was worth the Final Fantasy brand. Leaving the whole 1017 error aside for a minute and looking at the game as it is now, i can safely say that they've managed to create a game which is exciting and fun to play. They've done an amazing job.

Apparently a lot of other people think the same way too, since they've mentioned that they didn't expect FFXIV A Realm Reborn to be this popular among the gamers/fans. It was so popular, that their server park could not handle the load. Sure, even though you can really predict how a launch will go, they could've have expanded their server park even more after seeing the results of the 4th Beta Phase. But, this problem should only be temporary. Once the playerbase has settled in, we can all fully enjoy what the game has to offer.

Dayum. I myself have had no problem logging in. It depends when you log in I usually log in around 11 Central Time and I get in. As far as SE as a company (and I guess most JP game developers) stop making damn games where I gotta buy multiple discs to continue a story. Nobody needs FF13-3 and stop watering down an already 1-D character. Its like Cloud with boobs. I remember the PS1 days when all 3-4 discs were included with the game instead of having to shelve out $60 a disc. *sarcastic cough*
