Hmmm, I thought the lack of things to do and the state of the game at release was the thing that was causing players to leave this game. Little did I know it was because SE is catering to casuals. If only I knew this before. My eyes have been opened to the error of my ways.

I would put my self in the crowd that was really hoping to see more of a Final Fantasy XI evolved, in Final Fantasy XIV. Just because a game follows the same principles as a predecessor does not mean it has to be the same game. All Final Fantasy games up until Final Fantasy X-2 (which was god awful) for the most part followed the same basic principles, and IMO that is what made a Final Fantasy a Final Fantasy.

In Final Fantasy XIII Square Enix again tried to change the Final Fantasy formula and what did they get a massively hated game in Japan with a few Fan purchases in NA. I remember when i saw a posting on a forum for FFXIII where a guy posted a picture of a group of people in japan throwing their games into a fire pit (there are a bunch of FFXIII hate pictures lol).

P.S. i am still enjoying this game, just not as much as i did FFXI, and the challenge it offered me.

I was a casual player. I ask the first person I ran into, who was a pc player and a casual player. so............ ok.

so pretty much your off on your description. anyone can help anyone. You don;t need to be a hardcore player to help others. So pretty much your logic is faulty And I think you mean dedicated player. Anyone can be that hard core or casual. Remember hardcore and casual when talking players don;t always mean what you think it does. But more importently its getting old to se people lable others. So pl play for different durations, both ppl are players. No ine is more special.

I agree everything is either laughably easy or one shot kill hard. There's absolutely no natural enemy placement nor difficulty curve of any kind. Also the leves are a joke and that's all there is even the quests give the player absolutely no freedom in how to complete them.

Quests are generally predefined entities though, even in offline games. Guildleves were designed for people who can barely play the game, but it's also the only main stream content available so yeah it seems worse than it is because of that.

I stick thumbs up to them being access if only if its chanlenging, xi content and story missons was really fun, but i can say the majoritys of tackling said content was not actually fighting in great epics battles, were the actual difficulty was having the people and time to do such things as im sure theres enough people who's had some sort of pro longed horror story being stuck on something for a long time in that situation.

They are running a business, the MAIN player base they hope to capture is the 12 million casual gamers out there. Are they willing to lose 30,000 hard-core players over that kind of cheddar.....

You can bet you Krakkan Club +1 they are.

The culture of mmo gaming was changed forever by games outside of FFXI, to a more casual fair. In doing so those game makers made ridiculous amounts of money, while providing a product to millions of gamers that they love and adore.

You might as well be arguing that we should get rid of airplanes and take Zeppelin's again. Were zeppelins awesome! YES! But, they were also slow, inaccessible for the general public, and had a tendency to explode horrifically when things went wrong.

Hey Visch, it was fun getting you to go CAPS, bold, underline and color on me but I have to get going, probably won't remember to check this thread tomorrow.

Have fun teaching these newbs how to spend 4 hours to accomplish silly things in videogames when there are no MMORPG developers left that agree with that.

EDIT: Ok, I guess just one thing:

The speed and annoyances of the leveling system? Having to play with other people on an online game is an annoyance? I thought it was the whole point of playing online.
Spending months grinding for no reason but to get higher, while taking hours to set up groups if you were the wrong job is what I considered an annoyance. None of this taught you anything about how you should behave in endgame either, considering subjobs and playstyles used while killing random mobs had nothing to do with the strategies used in most NMs or events.

The FFXI player was not a super-beast forged by the hardships of the leveling system, sorry if you thought so.
