They may or may not be necessary. It might be interesting to have add ons that count damage, save mining points, or botany points etc etc. They can be useful tools but I don't know how that will interfere with the game itself.

Tanaka said they was looking at added Addon for PC to change How the UI look like and allow players to come up with it. But sadly this would mean ps3 wont get any addon so i don't think they would do this.

I remember reading that add ons are coming for FFXIV. I think once the reprogram the game we'll see them.
I don't want Addons in FFXIV.
Maybe to change the look of the Interface ok,
but no DamageMonitor or something like that.
.
Well, the widget system itself was meant to be this way to support add-ons. Maybe later on they will sell add-ons at crysta shop or just add thru patch to enhance customization screen...all necessary is already done except by a widget configuration screen at configurations menu.
I'd love to have a compass...would be much better than current minimap widget...i'd like to remove mouse-oriented shortcuts too since i don't use mouse to play...these are small examples of what we could do...there's uncountable add-ons they could add, specially to keep people away from "windowers" of all sorts. They could even add multiple widget versions of existing features, like a fifferent party widget with more/less info or the target widged with more/less info, depending of what the player wants.
Please, no damage meters. I'd love to see out of game combat logs, but no in game meters.
I don't want add-ons. They really are not needed and it would just give an advantage to the PC players.
I'm usually not one to make statements like this, but I think it applies in this case. To all you who do not want add-ons, the answer is simple. Don't install them. The whole idea behind the idea of an add-on is to give the user the freedom to choose to use, or not to use them. I think an add-on to allow people to personalize their UI could be useful. As is obvious here, people have different preferences. Why funnel them all into the same cookie-cutter UI? On the same vein, some people like knowing how well they are performing in a pure numbers aspect. Why not let them have something that shows them the numbers in real-time? It gives them no advantage in game, and doesn't hurt other players, so where's the harm?
The harm is that the people who value "being an indiviual" over "being efficient" will throw a fit that their WHM/WAR isn't able to tank and deal crazy damage like they thought it would and everyone with the DMG meter knows it!!!!
It really depends on the add-ons. If it goes the same route of other games that allow add-ons, people will be forced to install certain ones to join endgame guilds even though they prefer not to use them. I'd rather not start up on add-ons because that is the direction it will likely go.I'm usually not one to make statements like this, but I think it applies in this case. Minor add-ons I'm okay with. Stuff that shows you facts about your character (menu with all of your equip durability % for instance) I'm okay with. I would even be okay with an add-on that makes the menus simpler for keyboard/mouse users sense the game is developed around controllers (which I think they are planning to do anyway). I also don't have a problem with meters other than the people that like to brag about their numbers, as if anyone cares. An add-on that tells you when a boss does a move, or one that tells you how much hate you've built up, I am not okay with. It takes away important strategic aspects about a game that I prefer to keep.
