What the hell is craftmanship and magic craftsmanship for?

    I logged in to 14
    Checked my crafter's gear
Low and behold what did I see?
But two important stats so weird!

    Earnestly I looked them up
    Upon the Internet
    To see everyone messed up
    About what they meant!

Then there was a topics post
    To tell us about crafting
    It mentioned them in passing
But we still know next to nothing!

In my head I'm such a good crafter
    Switching to this and that
But without knowing what gear to go after
I want to hit myself with a baseball bat

I ask the Twelve what level
Of hells these stats came from
But they won't tell me a Twelvedamned thing
And for that I'm pretty bummed!

mag craftmanship is supposed to help hq, while craftmanship is supposed to help with durability loss.

incorrect. This is from the lodestone post...

    Q. What do the crafter-related attributes Craftsmanship, Magic Craftsmanhip, and Control each do?
    A. Among recipes in the game, there are those for which the rate of progress and chance of success are increased by higher Craftsmanship, and those for which they are determined by Magic Craftsmanship. Control helps to reduce the occurrence of aetherial sparking (see below), and exerts its influence over both types of recipes just mentioned.

Shampoo's got it covered. Straight from the horse's mouth.
Mcraft and quality/hq relationship is a widely distributed myth.

The effect is decently minor though. I've done how many non-jewelled rings for sp grinding at all ranges of sp from 400-150, and I can't tell if they're mcraft or craft.

my guess is items such as wands, staffs etc require magical craft, where as items such as an iron longsword would need normal craftsmanship....but that would make sense so is probably incorrect.

You can tell just by getting a feel for the rate of success or fails during a synth. For example bladed lantern shields are much easier to craft with stacked magic crafting vs. craftmanship. Most of weaving, cooking, and alchemy benefit from magic craft more than craftmanship. Their tools are designed that way also.

I think some have both as a req to craft with more success but those are much harder to test.

They need to display what is required on the recipe... they display what facility we need, no need to guess. they tell us if our sub-class isnt high enough, no need to guess. why do we have to guess if a recipe uses Craftsmanship or Mg Craftsmanship...

    Heya!

If we will not have any more in-deep informations about this, I'm going to stick what the FFXIV Team has wrote in regard of Synthesis:

All recipes, however, have set attribute requirements. Attempting a recipe with attributes below those required will result in lessened progress and quality, even for successful actions.

Furthermore, I like to think that every craft has its favor, if Craftmanship or Magical Craftmanship. I personally think that Alchemy-related crafts, or any craft that by any means involves magic (even the circlets that the Goldsmith can craft), goes into the Magical Craftmanship session, and the rest in the Craftmanship session.
I've always adopted this method in selecting my attributes for crafting recipes, and I've never had a problem =)

    See ya!

We know the above. It would be better to have the required stat listed on the recipe, so we know to change gears.
