    Helpful thread

Originally, I laughed at this thread, but when I actually took the time and read it I learned a lot. I think I will be a better DPS now because of the information posted here.

P.S. Before this thread I was one of those people who ran into 3 mobs and spammed ice aoe because I thought it was a good technique to help tank out lol...

Some tips for tanks from a BRD with aggro problems:

    1) Please mark. I know this doesn't fully prevent my less observant brethren from attacking random crap. You (and I) are hoping, though, that it at least keeps the decent/good DD out there doing what they should be. Nowadays, I mark, but before I was having issues even using Target of Target, because apparently I kept catching the tank as he was rotating through to hit second/third mobs. At that point, I'm going to pull aggro. I'm sorry, but I can't un-fire that Windbiter at the low-priority mob.

    2) Please keep things off of the healer. So far, my healer has almost always been in Mumble with me. If he says he has aggro, I immediately check to see if the tank has noticed. If not, I'm popping cooldowns to try to pull off of the healer myself. If I see the tank Provoke off of whichever of us has aggro, I'll switch back to the main target; if not, it's a race to see if the mob or I dies first. There's only so much I can do, though.

    3) When moving out of AOEs, please don't run towards the healer. If you can help it, don't run to the DD, either, but especially not the healer.

    For DDs out there:

    1) Please don't get ahead of the tank. Running ahead a little can be okay if, and only if, you know for a fact the way is clear. Attacking ahead of the tank is almost always a horrible idea. Don't do it.

    2) If there are marks (there should be), please obey them. Don't AOE pulls that aren't meant to be AOE'd, don't break CC if your party uses it, and don't attack the #2 mark when the #1 mark is still at half-health. If you're pulling hate, scale your attacks back a bit. Stop popping cooldowns if your tank is having issues keeping things off of you (assuming you're attacking the right target). Don't unload straight into a mob as soon as the fight starts. Especially if it's a boss.

That said, I'd say I've only met a few great tanks in DF, a fair number of good tanks, and more bad ones than I'd care to remember. Anything good or above is enough to finish the dungeon, though, so who cares?

Even if you dont want to take the time to mark all of the mobs, every pull, I'll mark the initial target and when its around 10-20% life, ill switch to the next target, mark it and start building enmity. It keeps us moving and the next mark is still up with enough time for the dps to find it when the first goes down.

Agreed. Sometimes I find myself too lazy to mark a full 1-2-3, and I'll just mark and re-mark #1 as the fight goes on.

I find, there's a severe amount of dps players who just refuse to cooperate and do whatever they feel like. Usually it causes grief for the tank, making it more difficult for them. If only people would actually face the fact that the world doesn't revolve around themselves, and accommodate other people in the group, things would go a lot smoother and a lot faster.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

"The tank lsot hate, and had to untilize all mp .. let me spam more damage.. cause the healer to loose control..shift balance and blame him/her- rather then do my job properly".

Naw let the other die as a lesson, run the safty, and syaty again right. The dungeon goes easy when other realize the balance.

Went through 7 dungeon runs yesterday. Out of the 7, 5 of our tanks were absolute rubbish. Spent the majority of one with my girlfriends archer targeted because it was drawing all the aggro while the tank jumped all over the map running from enemies. Spent another heal-tanking for our party because the gladiator refused to use his hate generators. Fun times indeed. The good tanks we did meet along our journey however were fantastic, kudos to you guys.

The most important aspect of party play is working together as a team. Discussing strategies, assigning roles, communicating with one another on how certain situations went and how you and the rest of the party can improve themselves is all part of what it means to tackle content as a group.

That being said, there are always people who will do things their way. The Duty Finder is a great tool to do form groups to tackle content with, but because it makes content a lot more accessible there will always be a chance you are grouped with people who might not be as experienced as you, or simply don't care to do their best in order to complete the designated objectives.

That's probably not gonna change. The only thing you can do is do your best and hope for a smooth progression. Give pointers where needed and adjust your playstyle if required. But, most of all, respect one another and stay cool/fabulous. (^_~ )-b
