1 & 2) That is incorrect. The best armor/weapon sets, Darklight set, are dropped in dungeons and raid events. I believe the FFXIV zam site has begun compiling a database for this. Feel free to check it out. You will be looking for items with the unique and untradeable tag for dungeon gear.

    3) That said, crafted gear seems to be more customizable in terms of materia slots. This is especially useful for some builds (if you're slotting all in to one stat or looking for very specific boosts to crafting/gathering).

Gatherers will want to increase gathering or perception stats. Raising gather will increase the chance of successfully gathering materials. Perception increases the chance that those materials will be HQ materials. This is especially important because HQ materials make it much easier to produce HQ gear.

Crafters will want to split their points in to 3 stats: Craftsmanship, Control, and CP. Craftsmanship affects how much progress you make towards crafting an item per attempt. Control increases how much progress in quality you make per use of "deft hand". You can only increase progress or quality and increasing either one will lower the durability of the craft. The goal is to progress and finish the craft while maximizing the quality before reaching durability 0.

Increasing quality exponentially increases the chance of getting HQ gear. So hypothetically (numbers are probably different from this example), if you have 30 quality, you will have a 5% chance of gaining an HQ craft. Comparatively, if you have 100 quality, you may have a 90% chance of a HQ craft. So it is in your best interest to get quality as high as you can. That said, increasing quality also decreases your CP.

CP is akin to MP and is consumed whenever you increase quality, recover durability, or any other special skills you get as a crafter. The only way to increase max CP is through materia. This is why end-game gear for crafters are likely to be obtainable only through crafting. Endgame dungeon gear does not seem to have the optimal number of materia slots for CP materia.

Also, blacksmith is the primary class for weapons like swords, axes, and many tools. You can find the full list on the database if you like. They might draw from some other classes such as goldsmith and carpentry later on, but those will be rarer ingredients.

Goldsmith is responsible for thaumaturge weapons and monk weapons. They are also responsible for jewelry and is pivotal for early crafters as that is the only gear to give innate CP, and possibly to dismantle for CP materia.

Anova your information about CP is incorrect. My level 21 weaver and my level 12 armorer both have the same 180 (188 thanks to the starting ring) cp. As far as I can tell cp ONLY raises via gear (and possibly materia)

Of course they are 18 officer, I mean come on, 9 and 9 clearly make 18

I find the OP, and responses later from OP to be baffling. Regardless there is some useful info in this post.
