Wow you're a judgmental little nerd! You realize you're criticizing people's hobbies (like watching Let's Plays or reviews) while posting an a Final Fantasy MMO forum, right? They can get away with it because people are making money off of their hard work. It isn't any different than WMG blocking songs in videos.
Instead of throwing a fit, why not try coming up with some original content for Youtube, instead of shitting it up with even more uninteresting drivel (i.e. you playing videogames).
We have reached a new low as a society when people are entertained by sitting at their computer watching other people play video games.
If someone wins an argument, they have learned nothing.
FOR DOCKHAND!
Living off monetizing is stupid to begin with if you live of copyright material. Every "LPer" and reviewer knows this. You can't tell people who live off monetizing the time they devote into researching these things to simply not monetize it. Jessie Cox even had a media license that allowed him to play the game when there was no beta testing going on. He had a whole series planned for his channel when only even a small percentage of his viewers would have cared to look into ARR without it. This is what I mean by symbiosis.
It has everything to do with the fact that the idea flew over his head completely. You calling it a non-issue puts you in the same boat.
It is a non-issue. There are thousands upon thousands of places to get reviews of games. The store, magazines, websites that are authorized to show content. Why the hell do we need a few dozen people that barely anyone cares about throwing fits because their video gets blocked?
If you are truly a popular Youtube reviewer, you don't need to worry about content licenses. Game companies will actively seek you out. Until then, there is really nothing to justify your existence as a reviewer. 90% of the "game reviewers" on Youtube could vanish today, and I'm sure we would all get along just fine in assessing a game's value and enjoyment.
EDIT: I know they have actively searched for quality reviewers, that was what I was pointing out. (and you say my English comprehension is bad?) BUT! The people getting blocked are not the ones they asked to review the game. The people getting blocked are the no-names who are trying to make quick buck with the smallest amount of effort possible.
As for the dude that called me a "judgmental little nerd". I'm playing the game, not watching someone else play it. Big difference, chief.

Square Enix HAS actively sought out these reviewers. You are too uninformed and making too many assumptions to give a valid opinion on this.It is a non-issue. Game companies don't give out media licenses to people they don't identify as notable sources. Just because someone is on Youtube doesn't mean they don't deserve to be compensated for their work.
Yet this is the reality of poor planning. The question I ask you is how exactly does SE expect to reduce negative publicity with a move like this? Anyone with a bad opinion can just video blog their face and talk about how horrible this game is even with this license in effect.I would not blame Square Enix. they had their share of fail with 1.0, and I see why they would limit the coverage for 2.0
That being said, they stopped the sales until they fix the servers. You really think they're happy with people who publicly shame them on youtube over the inability to login and/or make new characters due to overcrowded servers?

I think SE actually did seek out a few people from Polaris (formerly The Game Station) and a number of other places - they gave them review copies and requested (but didn't mandate) that they put at least 40 hours into the game before giving it a review. It is a non-issue. There are thousands upon thousands of places to get reviews of games. The store, magazines, websites that are authorized to show content. I completely agree. This is such a sad move. Please, Square Enix, reconsider. The return you'd gain from all the material that would be made about the game is just too much to lose. We have so many great content creators for FFXIV that won't be able to make videos any longer.
I'm waiting to see book companies realize how well this works, and prohibit anyone who is paid to review books from commenting on their books.
They already are. The linked video by OP used Pusheen the Cat as a placeholder while discussing the License issues. Ideally, I would like SE to man up and let people make videos of their stuff, even at the expense of not being able to work anymore with Amano and others for future FF titlesYet this is the reality of poor planning. The question I ask you is how exactly does SE expect to reduce negative publicity with a move like this?
