They should really have had a single player mode

I'm new to MMOs, as the only one I've ever played was a pseudo-MMO/single player RPG hybrid in White Knight Chronicles, but it was nice to have an option to play if the servers were down.

I don't know if this is just the newness factor, but paying $12.99 to MAYBE get on a server in order to play the game doesn't sound too appealing. If you pay for a service, you should receive the service - no maybes. I'm loving the game. Its awesome and I have very little complaints, but this is one of them.

It'd be nice if they just let you tool around the world, interact with NPCs or do other quests while offline should you encounter server problems, or a full world, or a queue that does nothing. Sidequests, leves, story and guild instances all tend to force you to be solo anyway.

I understand the whole basis of an MMORPG is a massive online venture... but at the same time, XIV forces me to be online to do 90% of the game solo, outside of dungeons and FATEs.

Interesting concept. It would be fun to be able to do some basic tasks, like leves or something, and then when you log in the data uploads and updates your character. It would probably be limited but it could still give options for people who can't or don't want to connect.

Problem with that is, the character data would have to be stored locally, which makes it a cinch to mess with the data and hack your guy to obscene levels of power and what not, open battle net of diablo 2 did that and i honestly never saw a legit character whenever i played it.

No, this is a MMO, if you want a single player game you have a LARGE selection.

I get where you're coming from OP, but that's just the nature of the beast and it comes with the territory of playing MMOs. There is one time and one time only that literally everyone will be trying to play your game at the same time, and taking time off of work to do it, and that's at launch. All these problems usually resolve themselves in a week.

To your play style, there are starting to be more and more single player games that heavily incorporate MMO elements if those are more your thing, but there are also a whole lot of people who love to play solo in MMOs and enjoy the challenges presented in doing so. You just have to find what does it for you, and not every game will have that.

I agree it is an interesting concept. Right now the idea of not having to wait to play a lot of the solo content is appealing but I'm sure all the congestion will even itself out once they've made the upgrades they are planning.

This would be REALLY easily exploitable. I can already think of a few client-side hacks that could upload to the server.
