They should really have had a single player mode

I don't know if this is just the newness factor, but paying $12.99 to MAYBE get on a server in order to play the game doesn't sound too appealing. If you pay for a service, you should receive the service - no maybes.

Well, no one technically paid for the service yet. Even if you own a physical copy of the game, you only bought the license to use it.
