Yoshi said a while ago that he hoped people would choose Tanking as it was essential for the game to have enough of them for teams to move forward. It is not easy to do well, and I worry a lot doing it because of the responsiblity but it is very rewarding to protect people and defeat an angry and vindictive boss...and stay alive long enough to do it.

I was re-thinking what someone said previous about there being more than green yellow and red - and yes there is an orange which I believe is just the breif moment while the mob is changing targets but it doesnt show up long enough for me to investigate.

I had a good dugeon run earlier where the majority of the time the DPS and healers worked well with me. I understand if a DPS need to take something that I cant reach in order to save the healer so long as they can handle themselves. One biggy that bothering me now is carbuncles using that attack that makes the mob go out of range x.x

ok so, im wondering which class i should go as for tank, since im in a static group and the only class we dont have is a tank.
so far we have a monk, bard, and white mage in the party.
any suggestions for which class (warrior or paladin) can work better with those classes? so i know which one to plan for and practice with so i can actually do a good job tanking when we prepare for our first duty finder together xD

As stated by someone else it doesn't matter play what you want, however when you get to raid content, you guild SHOULD be looking to have one of each. While both are intended to be viable MAIN TANKS, you will both be bringing something unique to the table and as such should have one of each. For 8 man content with the current class distribution, you actually want one of each class across the board.

What you can do is ask Arcanists to use the "Obey" pet command on their pet action bar. It is an extra bar that shows up for both keyboard and gamepad (gamepad users may or may not be aware of it - if they don't see it tell them to hit R1). What this does is make it so the pet only does their basic attack. Supposedly you only have to do this once for your pet's AI to be "set" for an entire run, but I may be wrong.

These commands are also how Arcanists can direct their pet when they attack the wrong target, which tends to happen sometimes in boss fights with several adds.

Either will work fine, pick whichever you enjoy playing more. I've healed for both types of tanks in high level dungeons, in several different party setups, and have no preference as long as the player is fine.

    Yes, you are correct:

Red Circle/Square (flashing) = 100% enmity (you are being attacked)
    Orange Circle/Square = 75-99% (be really careful)
Orange Triangle = 50-74% enmity (be careful)
Yellow Triangle = 25-49% enmity (not much to worry about)
Green Circle = 0-24% enmity (nothing to worry about)

Like Estellios said, play the tank you like better. Here is a guide on tanking (also where I found the enmity bar above): http://www.daevaofwar.net/index.php?...sjob-analysis/

thanks for that thread that will be very helpful. It makes a big differnce to have some background ...as tanking can be very stressful if you want to do the right thing but are being overwhelmed with enemies and your party is in danger and your actions dont seem to be making any differnce at all. In time things can turn around and having the right skills makes a huge difference. thanks again. Too bad there is not a Tanking instructor at the Guild HQ to help train us at certain levels.

Seriously though, thanks for the heads up, I was just using it as a target list, hadn't noticed the colours.
What I am curious about is why paste a screen shot into paint to edit it, to then take a whole screen grab rather than save your edited image?
Also what do the little coloured symbols next to a mobs level on its name plate mean?
I know the one for aggressive mob, but what do the little blue arrows, and blue square mean?

Thanks for this. I noticed the colors, but didn't realize what they meant
