    [Game suggestion] Inventory system

I'd like to see some changes to the inventory. Right now it's 100 spaces and I know it was increased from 80 before but it's still not working out. I think the main issue is the space equipment and tools take up. In most mmo's you play one class and you might have several sets for different purposes. Takes up quite some space, but ok.
But it's different here in ffxiv. The developers encourage you to try out and level several classes simultaneously. The encourage it by having cross-class abilities and they enforce it by making our xp/sp get fatigue.
The problem I have with that, is that it takes up a lot of space. To be honest, almost half of my inventory is tools and equipment. Low lvl craft gear, high lvl craft gear, mining gear, battle gear(I already choose for either magic or war before I go out), and then the weapons/tools(2 each craft).

One possible argument would be not to have many different classes or just carry around the items needed for just 2-3 of them. But I don't find that a valid argument. And that's because the game almost forces you to have multiple classes, so I believe they should also accommodate that inventory-wise.
I would suggest to have equipped items not be part of the inventory(you have to go to the 'gear' option anyway if you want to unequip). And on top of that I would suggest a 'gear set' option. That way I can define maybe like 3 different sets in my equipment/gear screen and not only have those items not fill up my inventory but it also allows me to switch gear quickly. This will reduce the needs for tedious macros.
I don't see many other options to get this done. Just removing the equipped items from the inventory would not make enough difference in my opinion. And of course they can't go and remove tools, weapons and clothing from the inventory all together because that would unfairly favor people who craft that.

And yes, I'm aware we have retainers with space. But that will 1. require you to run there all the time you want to switch classes, and 2. cripple your selling ability if you use your retainer as a bazaar.

    Edit: Added another suggestion
Another issue is organizing your inventory. Right now you either have everything in order you received it, or sorted so the first part of your list is filled with clothing, tools and weapons you can't equip in that screen anyway.
I assume it's done to accommodate gamepad users, but I find it very annoying.
I want to be able to organize stuff myself, either with predefined tabs as suggest or give me the chance to make tabs myself. So either split the inventory in different bags, or just give it several custom tabs. That way I can put my battle gear in 1 tab, my crafting gear in 1 tab, my blacksmith ingredients in one tab, my ** ingredients in one tab and have a tab with whatever is left.

Especially in a game with so many different items and crafting requires 15 different ingredients to make the end-product I crave for a way to sort and organize stuff myself.
And it gets even more complicated since I also have 2 retainers full of stuff I use. Which means that every time I need an item I have to scroll through 3 lists to find my item. So yeah, if I turn the sort button on I have a vague idea where the item is. But I rather be able to have both me and my retainers complete inventory on my screen immediately.

I think that one solution might be to add the Mog House system from XI to XIV. They could call it Apartment Wards or something similar. It could have a base storage/bank + storage amount based on furnishings within it. This would also allow them to introduce a delivery/mail system for items. It would also give crafters something else to make.

They could also separate your inventory into several groupings. Weapons/Tools, Consumables, Crystals, Crafting Ingredients, etc.

I love new forum. Fresh start and genuine ideas to improve the game. I hope SE dev read this!

So far about the retainers that got reset often, how about adding ability to re-summon our retainer without actually going to the ward itself again. So for example we can summon it at the inn and have some sort of a notification if our retainer is not selling anymore and the option to re-summon our retainers at the last location. It save us trouble of checking the ward and traveling back again since anima is precious in this game. Since the market crash so often

I agree with darkshade about having a Mog House I kinda miss that from FFXI. But I wish they give 100 space for each class or at least the retainer have 100 space for each class and at least you can organize your items that way would be really helpful for farmers/crafters.

And on a related note, they should add ways to organize your inventory. Right now you either have everything in order you received it, or sorted so the first part of your list is filled with clothing, tools and weapons you can't equip in that screen anyway.

I agree there needs to be a different system when it comes to inventory. I use a gamepad half of the time and I still want my own custom way of sorting inventory.

Its too bad we dont have something like a war chest or something to put weapons and gear in to save inventory space. With fishers they can implement a "tackle box" for lures and bait this can be put into the pack slot or something.

I have 1 retainer that has my equipment and its almost full, and the other i use to float around with me from city to city with crafting mats and repair mats. i dont think that adding another retainer will fix things, it will make things worse imo. if they let players have one more retainer then that is one more retainer that could take up space in a ward, and in my observations to many retainers in one citys ward will cause it to crash (case in point Trabia - Ul'dah).

I hope they fix this in the next patch.

you could call it the gearbox.

And yeah my second retainer has nothing but gear( a lot of which i bought in advance in anticipation of leveling). It is less than ideal, especially when i forget what goes with which class.

I completely agree with everything said. More space would allow spots for food. I would really love to make the best use of the culinary class by cooking and having bunch of food in reserve for battles. Ok they can limit that to a certain amount of "food items" like have a food basket or something that can hold a limited amount per a quest. Each food got different effect and the effect changes depends on race. That would add lot of depth and provide much more and better use of Culinary class and the Discipline of hand in general. "drool"

To the producers: Please take everyone suggestion about inventory in to consideration. It would significantly approve the game. And if it wasn't for the better everyone would not have agreed on it.

If they added the mog house concept they could also add something like a wardrobe where you have allready assigned the gear you wish to wear. I think that would simplify matters of switching gear tremendously.
