SMN - Ruin II vs. Ruin

Does anyone see any reason to ever use Ruin, once you have Ruin II?
The only difference is that Ruin II is instant.

I assume the mana cost is higher for Ruin II. If it's not, then... I guess if you wanted to save the Blind debuff's diminishing returns on a boss? IDK.

I believe Ruin II is supposed to straight up replace Ruin. Ruin only acts as a filler when all your dots are on your target(s). My guess is you'll have so much going on once you get your entire skill-set, that you'll never have time to cast a Ruin or two.

If how it was in FFXI is any indication then it's probably an upgrade.

It costs more MP and ACN/SMN really has no MP to spare, especially if you want to maximize Fester use.

I really only see it being used if you need the effect of it, or if you REALLY need to use something on the move.

Ruin (LVL 1 ACN spell) is not instant so you can't "use it on the go" so to speak. I found these two spells odd as well though my question was why use Ruin II when I Ruin has the same potency as per the description? Blind could be useful but not against a boss where it matters.

    For party play:
If only blind effect can be carried over by Bane, it would be better. 10sec blind is not bad, but tank can take the dmg dished out in 10sec and healer can heal it. Unless in that 10sec, there's a few crit hits that can kill the tank cause healer was pre-occupied, then blind may make those attack miss. But if it's paladin, blind is already there with flash (unless it's a bad paladin who doesn't use flash even for a blind effect), so useless with paladin tank.

    For Solo:
Blind is useful if you are playing as scholar, but then why play solo as scholar? Arcanist itself is better due to carby tanking and having access to more cross skills. If you are playing as ARC or SUM and not using tank summon then blind is useful since agro is on you.
