The OP really seems to be playing the wrong game. Should go back to WoW or play another game that is more casual friendly than FFXIV. You should also use a bit of common sense when playing this game. If you played FFXI and camped NMs then you should think that the drop rate will possibly be about the same for NMs on FFXIV. Also, there are going to be a lot of people wanting to fight it, so just give it some time. Go and fight it when the "new" smell has worn off. Yes FFXIV is more casual friendly, but it isn't just for casual players.

As I have gotten older, my needs and wants in an mmo have changed. The time sink that FFXI was, was perfect for me when I was younger. Now that I'm older, my time is more precious to me, that is why I'm playing FFXIV now. If your time is precious, then spend your time in a smart way. Don't spend 2 hours on an NM when there is a possibility that you won't get the drop. I personally, wouldn't call that a waste of 2 hours, but the nature of drops don't really bother me. I'll just try to get the drop next time I feel like spending time on the NM. The fact that I don't have to spend all day camping an NM just so I can fight it, in hopes that I'll get the item that has an extremely low drop rate is a great thing to me. I've fought Leaping Lizzy, Jagged Ear Jack, and the Emperor Fly (w/e you call it). Didn't get the drop from any of them. Then I just started fighting some of the less camped NMs, selling the drops that I got from them for a rather nice profit.

It is all about being smart with your precious game time. If FFXIV isn't casual enough for you, go to a different game. I'm not saying that like an elitist or anything. Just saying that you should be playing a game that is worth your time. You sound like you want a game that isn't FF. I don't think that FFXIV will ever go with just having everything instanced. At least, I hope that they don't. I want some instancing in this game, but not everything. WoW really isn't all that bad of a game, can't stand the graphics, but I see the game's mass appeal. They have the dungeons you're asking for and you're more likely than not to get the drops that you need. Personally WoW was too casual for me. That's why I'm here on FFXIV.

Some people here apparently didn't read the part where I said I threw out the WoW disc into the yard burn pile.

And I'm not asking to be "given" something for trying. I'm trying to say that the format for the NMs are wrong. That, and the idea that we casuals dont' seem to earn ANYTHING for wasting two hours on a single mob. I'd explain more, but I just woke up and I'm not exactly in the mood to get all grumpy - not with such a nice morning~

NMs are hardly "hardcore content." They're a standard, and something that will be available at varying ranks in the future.

NMs are not for everyone, and if you don't like them, no one's holding a gun to your head and asking you to participate.

The point of this post is to state simply this: As a person with a life, a family and college studies to worry about, I don't have a lot of time to burn on a video game.

So, sitting on a single NM for two hours, in the middle of competition against other parties...would have been better spent getting SP. But I wanted that armor. Two hours of time invested into the game to try to get it, feels like it has been a wasted investment, and therefore, degrades the value of FFXIV to me, a "high-end" casual gamer.

Time, to me, is precious. If a game makes me waste more than an hour for a single item drop, someone in the dev team *** up.

That is my perspective, and a good solution would have been to make all NMs instanced content so that parties can fight their way down through a dungeon or something, and then fight the boss - and get the item they're after as a reward.

Not a whole lot different from how .hack//G.U. does it - there's a chest at the end of every dungeon, there's probably a boss at the end of every other dungeon. Etc. Things like that.

This solution would have made things FAR more enjoyable, more tangible for the average casual player, as opposed to SITTING ON YOUR *** *** FOR TWO HOURS FOR NOTHING.

If this message does not reach Naoki Yoshida, then the chances of him adjusting his strategy for NM/instanced content is going to be slim, and the game will continue to be unfriendly to casuals who want to get a particular item.

Believe me, I know that this strategy would be a better course of action than the traditional FFXI approached "tweaked" to suit particular circumstances. That's not gonna work. No, no, no. It won't work at all! You're only going to drive off more casuals...

    ***************
I spent two hours trying to get the armor drop from Kokoroon Quickfingers, and I only had ONE CLAIM. ONE CLAIM. WITH A PARTY OF FOUR.

We had promised to help each other get what we wanted from Kokoroon.

Yet two other parties are crowding into the spawn and managing to get the NM before any of us. AND THEY ARRIVED AN HOUR AFTER WE DID.

THIS IS PRECISELY WHY I AVOIDED NOTORIOUS MONSTERS IN FINAL FANTASY XI. THIS IS NOT CASUAL-FRIENDLY.

Make NMs instanced, please, for *** sake. One NM spawn per party. PROBLEM *** SOLVED.

Two hours of camping Kokoroon, and what do I have to show for it? NOTHING.

Thanks a lot, Naoki Yoshida! YOU SURE WERE THOUGHTFUL!

I'm going to bed. *** this ***. If I can't at least get the opportunity to claim the mob five times in an hour of camping, from a casual's perspective, it is NOT worth the time and effort to deal with the competition. Period. Non. Nein. Nyet. NO.
I hardly consider myself hardcore, but you don't have to be a hardcore player to appreciate things like tough enemies or timed spawns. Like many here have said, the patch just came out, so of course ppl are camping en masse. Don't blame the devs because YOU have to have the newest gear yesterday. Quit crying already.

It's been a night since I posted this thread, I'm pretty much over it. I just think it's a good idea to at least try to discuss the issues involved with this.

The first 4 NMs i killed today dropped the loot rather quick, 2 on 3-4 try, one even on first try.
All were easy to solo, some took longer but were not hard for my class (GLA)
Then the Kokoroon, i killed him alone for about 8 times then teamed up with 2 different duos for at least another 20 fights and somemore... and at the end of the day we finally got a bow... Will have to come back for the body.
So the drop rate for some of the NM seems much lower.
Still they all are not hard... and they do drop a LOT of gear... not only the untradeable but also regular gear, lots of different things...
Some items are pretty neat, they look cool.

I didnt expect endgame content, IMO the 20 NM were a nice addition.
Guys don't be so stuck up!have to agree that its more fun to hunt NM for decent gear than getting it from the market wards and there will be no frustration for new players because they respawn so fast)
I understand that you know NM from FFXI but there are no reason to compare them. Those are obviously rather easy and fun mobs, they are placed in 'very easy' to find spots. I think its is a good idea with the gear, it will give new players a good reason to form parties and go NM hunting.
    You

Guess what, all the people i met who were camping the NM were R50, some came even in duos, trios and small parties.
No reason to complain about the difficulty really...
i am sure SE will add a lot more.
