Turn off battle effects by other people.
There are many options in system configuration to make
things you want load faster onscreen.
Install a 7200 rpm drive on PS3 too, helps things load faster onscreen.

That would be nice but the PS3 version does not allow us to change graphics settings at all, such as the battle effects by other people.

It does. There just aren't alot of options for it. There's three options for battle effects. One for your effects, one for party effects and one for other player effects with the selections being All, Some or None(ish). There's a couple more graphics settings options but I'm not logged in to see as I don't remember offhand.
Append: As to further illustrate, I have mine set to show all my battle effects, some of the party's effects and none(ish) of other players' effects. I still see the casting effects of mage classes but all other effects are gone unless it's from party members.

You are right! It's under Character Configuration > Control Settings > Character tab. Interesting place for this setting >.>It does. There just aren't alot of options for it. Thanks for the tip!
