The 1017 is not a problem. It's functioning as intended. You cannot have a login Queue if there is not a single space open on the server. 1017 means literally every slot on the server is in use.
And the thing that really disgusts me is that so many people can be so horridly misguided over this. Yes the 1017 caper is massively frustrating particularly for NA players who catch the tail end of EU peak playtimes, but booting AFKers isn't going to change a thing.
Go download something like Quakeworld, setup your own server, have a bunch of clients sit idle and watch the servers CPU usage, now get them all running around, firing at each other and interacting with the level. You'll quite literally see a tenfold increase in CPU usage on the server. Not to mention that idle players are not even impacting on the portion of SE's infrastructure that is actually the root of all this whole problem.
A good portion of the FFXIV "community" is really showing it's lack of insight over this situation.
Actually it is. The servers are not broken, they are actually full. Though I would estimate actual AFK players do not make up a significant chunk of the players online.
You're missing the WHOLE point... If the server issues did not exist, would you care about those that AFK? The only reason people are complaining about AFKers is because the servers can't support the load. If no one AFK'd there is NO guarantee that the most vocal people here would have had any more success getting in than they do now.
There are multiple issues here, but this rage at AFKers as if they are the ones causing server congestion is idiotic. The server congestion is caused by a lack of infrastructure... NOT caused by those who found a less than pleasant for everyone work around.
You're attacking me on a personal level... And I'm just laughing. Logic and common sense are superpowers nowadays... Too many emotional knee jerk reactions.

If you haven't been able to log in for a week, your not trying hard enough. You act like the game is full 24 hours a day every day. I've been able to log in every time I go to play regardless of the time of day. All you have to do is close the game and log back in til you get in. It usually take 4 or 5 tryies.
I haven't been able to play for 4 days now
If pigs can really fly, I wouldn't care about anything else!!!
They can argue that everyone has paid for the game and can therefor do whatever they want with their characters with no restrictions (outside of the obvious things that can get you banned.)
I'm all for the AFK kick timer...but think it should be set to an hour. And I also wouldn't be selfish and leave my game on all day until I get home from work to ensure I have a spot, haha...
I'd like to think a moral compass should come into play for a lot of people. :-P
So I noticed that every time I have ever gotten the queue there are only like 50 people in in. Something tells me they need to up the amount the queue can hold. But yes I'd like to see an afk kick. In fact I thought there was one until this thread.
I am glad to hear this is being considered, but only wish that it could be given to us sooner. That being said, AFK kick timer right now is a stopgap fix for the population boom.
