    Please implement this in as unobtrusive a manner as possible! I agree that an AFK kicker under heavy server load is a good idea, but when the server is not under heavy load (in the future), an AFK kicker would be really annoying.

    A good fix would be "When the server is full and new players can't get on, kick the person who has been AFK the longest ONLY WHEN a new player trys to log in."

    That would allow people to AFK as long as they wanted, unless the server was full, and at that point, it would only kick people as often as people attempted to sign in.

    It also would mean that once server traffic decreases in the future, the afk kicker would still be there, but would not be active, since the servers wouldn't be under as much load.

    In normal circumstances, an AFK kicker is incredibly annoying. These are not normal circumstances. As long as people can't get in because of AFKers, I support such an AFK kicker, but once that's not an issue, please, please don't leave a kicker active.

    Agreed. I understand why folks want this today, but hopefully next week it'll be a non-issue. As bad as congestion has been this week, I have not had to spam login for more than 20-30 mins (and most of the time its 10 min or less) at a time in order to play even during peak hours (6-10PM US Central Time) periods. Assuming the planned server upgrades are successful, I'd be willing to bet the normal server queue system will do the trick.

    ...Obviously there is a different team for programming in game features and another team for bringing up the new servers... Priority needs to be getting people into the game, then working on improving it..... SOOOoo, Saying it will be implemented after current plans is NOT ACCEPTABLE. I fail to see how SE is addressing the issue immediately? Saying "oh we will have it fixed eventually" really is only a pacification.

    AFK kicker isn't the solution. you just have to make the server capable to handling that much volumne.
    best solution to traffic is making the highway bigger, not banning people from using the highway.

    during the 10 some years I played FF11 I never seen this kind of problem, not to mention FF11 servers hosts both JP/NA players and anyone who been to Jeuno during peak hours would know what I am talking about.

    not sure if SE cheaped out on server or what because the miserble failure of FF14 v1.0, but not able to handle the initial comeback volumne is not helping the game either.

    a mmo that kicks afk player out just because the server can't handle the volumne won't get anywhere. you are going to have people complain about gil farmer that takes up all the server slots later.

    24/h AFK is just stupid and is one the main causes for the Server issues.... The Devs should have implemented this ages ago...

    No it's not because other MMOs have server issues at launch and I guarantee it's not due to people AFK.

    Actually it is. The servers are not broken, they are actually full. Though I would estimate actual AFK players do not make up a significant chunk of the players online.

    this, and also NOT removed the queue, so then the servers don't get constant spam from people trying to enter the realms.

    I always am amused by these threads...

    The actual issue is a lack of hardware capable of handling the load... Sure, the people AFKing are the easy target since its person not the company. Lets yell at them and pass over the FACT that there isn't enough hardware provided for everyone to play. And the assertion that because people are AFKing means they must be horrible people in real life is more than mildly laughable. I can promise you this, when the necessary infrastructure is in place that can handle the needs of the community, the AFK "problem" will resolve itself.

    Is it a jerk move to AFK? Sure, I'll give you that. But, is it the actual problem, the elephant in the room? No, it's a symptom of inadequate infrastructure, much like the rage associated with withdrawal symptoms of addicts being displayed by those who can't play.
