And then you'll see all the AFKers jumping or running in circles while botted to prevent this. I don't bot, but really, I can't blame people for not wanting carpal tunnel by clicking past a 1017 error.
This is why I suggested the AFK timer reset only on XP gain. Goodbye AFK's nice knowing you.

Easy enough: Load up your inventory with cheap mats, craft something with it before AFK timer would kick you.
AFK timers will never be a solution, there hasn't been one in MMO history that couldn't be circumvented within 1 or 2 minutes of setting stuff up to do it. I'd rather spent 1 or 2 minutes setting it up than face a whole evening trying to login..

And I'm sure if that if any of those cross the line into botting you will get penalized for it. That being said, I wouldn't call it the one and only solution, but part of a bigger solution involving improved server infrastructure and more servers as a last resort.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

So what you're saying is to avoid AFK logout by coming back to the keyboard and playing the game? What exactly are you trying to say here?Easy enough: Load up your inventory with cheap mats, craft something with it before AFK timer would kick you.

An AFK timer really doesn't do anything. It's childishly simple to circumvent. It's more of a "feel-better" feature than anything that actually helps.
AFK timer is more like a little, itty bitty tiny lock on your luggage for airports.
It won't really stop anyone, its just there to keep an honest person honest.
*** Honestly. At the moment I'm less appalled by the AFKers as much as the fact that gold selling bots have made it on the servers and is spamming. Boot them first. :|

Luckily, that's not as common as you'd think. The only ones that were known for doing this in WoW were the people AFK in battlegrounds.
Re: Gold Spammers - I made a thread suggesting a report option from the chatbox with a silence function built in. Basically, you report the spamming bot, it silences them so their spam no longer shows up on your chatbox and reports them to special task force so that they can evaluate their account.

First major broken promise everyon is asking for an AFK timer and it is being ignored by the Director.
How ignorant to launch a game without one.
It's standard and should be done.
RECONSIDER!!!!

The people trying to defend that never logging out isn't a problem is hilarious. I cant tell if there trolling or not.
