    Any tips on tanking

Hi I am pretty new at PLD on XIV(ARR) and
I have been having some issue holding hate as PLD and I'd like to know some recommendations.
Currently I have PLD AF gear, and accesories focusing in increasing vit, str and skill speed.
Main problem I have had is I do take lots of damage, and then I need to use def skills constantly which causes to sacrifice some ws hits. I also increased my vit and str attributes.
    Any tips?
    Thanks for your help.

From what I've read and from my own recent experience tanking as GLA, it basically comes down to opening (pulling the mob) with Shield Lob, and then alternating between spamming Flash and the Fast Blade+Riot Blade combo (this last one is especially important - not only is Riot Blade reasonably powerful, if it is comboed off Fast Blade, it restores a fair amount of MP, which is essential to keep using Flash to hold hate.).

My experience with PLD though is somewhat vague however (I only ever played a little of it at the end of 1.23 service when the servers were reactivated, and even then, I was soloing), and I haven't quite gotten to a level to unlock it yet, so I have no idea as to any differences PLD would have to GLA as far as enmity generation is concerned, but from what I can gather it's not too different from how GLA does it.

But then, there are plenty of experienced PLDs and GLAs here which could offer better advice than me in that regard.

In terms of skill speed, I'd say don't worry about it. You won't have enough of it across your gear without materia to make a difference. Those materia slots would be better used by adding STR, Parry, Dex or Determination.

As far as gaining and holding hate, it might help if you shared your typical skill rotation.

I wrote a short guide on my LS website that may help with a few things and I'm sure others here will give plenty of additional advice as well.

The latest I have tried is pull with shiel lob,
Then use Flash-Fast Blade-Savage Blade multiple times using shield lob and voke when available, when mp low change to Fast Blade-Riot Blade combo always using flash.
The times I have had more problems with is on primals fights

You can use the term <t> in a macro to designate whatever your current target is.

So you can make a Shield Lob macro to specify primary target to attack, use Shield Lob, and mark the target all with one button press.

Don't use this exact form, but I think it would go something like:

    /action "Shield Lob"
    /p Attack <t>!
/mark whatever it is constitutes a marking macro

I don't know yet how this macro system works, but there's plenty of people who do, and I imagine a tutorial or guide is out there somewhere. There used to be one on the Lodestone, but I haven't checked in awhile and eh, I'm lazy.
