Sharing Chocobo Companion's observations

So far I'm liking the Chocobo Companion. The only down side is that I can't use another mount type while it's out so I have to sprint around a lot. I was hoping to see if other players can share their Chocobo Companion experiences and playing tips? I also had a few questions and I was hoping to find some answers for.

1. Can we respec the Chocobo ability points?
2. Is all the Chocobo barding slots just for decoration?
3. What is the best way to level your Chocobo?
4. Is there an actual Attack command or Guard me?
5. Are Gyshal Greens harvestable?
6. Does your Chocobo Companion sometimes stops fighting?

Thought i was going to get my chocobo last night, then i noticed that they up'd the amount of points needed from 1k to 2k. I'll have to make it a priority on my list of stuff to do tonight. Would also like to see the answers to these questions.

From what I've been reading around, it looks like our all purpose Chocobo companion unlocks after this quest;

I remember reading a dev post that said the chocobo barding are just for decoration because they didn't want people to not use a particular barding set they liked because it didn't give the stats they wanted.

According to my Gathering Log, Gyshal Greens are no longer on the list. Was hoping to go out and farm a few stacks.

I haven't used my companion yet, I actually was wondering if theres a quest that starts it or if i just need the greens?

Read the post just before your reply. You can purchase the greens from a vendor at each capital city.
