Answer: If you have been following what the dev team has been saying, there are many people working on many different things. The best way I can put this is imagine a plane that is going under repairs. There are many things that need to be repaired on this plane from the wings, to the glass, to the lavatories, to the seats, to the electrical, to the mechanical, down to the wheels.
Where do you start first? Who do you assign to what? If you put all 100 people who are working on this plane on 1 task, you have a lot of people standing around, waiting for their turn or waiting for someone to move for them to get involved. It's a lot easier to do your job when you know what needs to be done without worrying on what everyone else is doing and not covering up what you're working on. This is especially true with designing a game and messing with code.
Each team is hard at work and they're pushing things out. These "unnecessary things" are things that are getting done because they are simply the easiest fixes. If waiting for these updates is that bad and terrible you could always stop playing and come back when they're finished polishing the game and actually charging people money to play.

What is gameplay to you?Yeah, I agree with Argh 100000%
The game is slowly dying I guess.
Why would yoshi add more unnecessary things while you have tons of stuffs to be fixed??
worse, they said New Monsters, but they all are the same, just different names. Some guy said it took years of development to change the monster size, then the conclusion is......= SE fails beyond repair.
why bother changing the maximum party size, when you need to fix the gameplay and combat system?
I used pugilist and all the skills are the same, conclusive blow, pounce, etc ,they are just " whacking some one" with different glowing color. even lancer can't jump anymore.
sigh..... this 1.17 patch is soooooooo beyond unnecessary
a lot of new MMOS are coming out the question is. will this game survive ?
To some people, fixing the combat system is fixing gameplay. To another person, fixing the crafting system would be fixing gameplay, others feel fixing the class system would be fixing gameplay.
lol @ sig. I was just thinking about taking a break from the forums and then I seen your sig.

Why are some expecting challenging content to be released this soon? You guys are really setting the bar very high for these early patches. I'm good with the patch because I figured we weren't getting anything major. It has been said plenty of enough times to come back in about 2-3 months if that's all you care about. The patches have this "snowball" effect and they are getting bigger and better compared to the last.
Stop expecting major additions to XIV when we didn't even get AA yet... Not to even mention the other core changes.
@OP seriously man stop crying about your fail design MMO(FFXI). It was fun while it lasted but was not the best MMO to ever be released. Far from that label actually.

Is this BelgianRofl under a new account?NM's pop as fast as regular mobs and appear to have a 100% drop rate.
parties are awarded an automatic buff when formed.
just did an 8 man behest and it ended about 10 meters where it started from. mobs were zerged to death once again.
took away collision detection from player to player for no reason.
wasted time enlarging mobs.
announced instance dungeons over open battles.
no mention of camp and pull zones.
market wards still in game.
pointless economic model still in place.
no risk vs. reward system in the world.
world still copy / pasted.
no mention of getting rid of the teleportation & anima garbage.
wasted months with LOLpatches when he should have incorporrated the successful elements of ffxi into the game by now; auto attack, traveling, classic jobs, AH, party play, camp and pull, meanginful death penalty, etc.
nothing has changed since he took over. it's still the casual friendly garbage that it has been with no incentive to even talk to anyone else. with gil so easily obtained and meaningless death penalty, might as well have everyone start off at level 50 with unlimited money. the game is just a mindless solo grind and behested zerg fest of 111111111.
at first i had my hopes. but now it appears the reason he is practically asking what the "community thinks" by the way of polls is because he simply does not know what to do.
Stupid needing 10 charsNM's pop as fast as regular mobs and appear to have a 100% drop rate. - Agreed, they need to reduce drop rate or increase spawn time.
parties are awarded an automatic buff when formed. - So?
just did an 8 man behest and it ended about 10 meters where it started from. mobs were zerged to death once again. - Agreed that they should make things more difficult.
took away collision detection from player to player for no reason. - What's the good reason for having it?
wasted time enlarging mobs. - There was no time "wasted" at all. The time it took to change that was insignificant.
announced instance dungeons over open battles. - No, they have announced instanced dungeons AND open battles...
no mention of camp and pull zones. - Thank god. Please explain why camp and pull is good.
market wards still in game. - So? They work just fine. Not our problem you can't be bothered to move your character to the retainer.
pointless economic model still in place. - Not sure what you're talking about here.
no risk vs. reward system in the world. - Agreed. We need some sort of Death deterrent.
world still copy / pasted. [b] - Matter of personal taste. I don't consider it such. There is no more copy paste than any other MMO... only difference is they didn't disguise it with objects quite as well as other MMOs.
no mention of getting rid of the teleportation & anima garbage. - Because it's not garbage. If you don't like it or think it's "cheap"... don't use it!
wasted months with LOLpatches when he should have incorporrated the successful elements of ffxi into the game by now; auto attack, traveling, classic jobs, AH, party play, camp and pull, meanginful death penalty, etc. - Well, golly gee gosh skipper... I think they've addressed all those issues and have stated they're implementing or considering them... it's too bad they don't have a time machine so they can fix it all "instantly".
LOL
I'd love for him to explain this too. I suppose this dude wants a socialist economy because apperantly inflation is rampant and thus things are expensive... boo hoo
I'd love to see him present an alternative... I won't be expecting much though, but I can stand for a few good laughs.
I have not wasted months with LOLpatches, Argh. Perhaps you should take a break and come back when things pick up. It isn't like you're paying a monthly subscription fee...
Piracy
YOu know, some of these points are kinda dumb to make here. Comparing final fantasy XIV to XI is like comparing final fantasy XII to final fantasy 1. Every game in the series is meant to be different. If you want to play final fantasy XI then play that. its still up and running and still has some subscribers in it. We choose to play final fantasy XIV because we like it. as far as yoshi-p goes, i think hes doing a great job saving the game. There is one thing i will agree on though is that he is kinda making the game a bit too easy. Yoshi-P if youre reading this bud, please give us some more challenge in the game.
why ppl keep protecting the dev while the fact is their works suck and the game is dying?
