So for people without anything that works here is a crazy idea that might give you some progress. I play on a Windows 7 PC but my friend has decided to switch from PS3 to PC. He has Windows 8, which I do believe to be the culprit behind this all, and has been having the "Unable to complete version check." error. So I have been busy trying to see why this might be. I decided to try the release ip and renew. No avail. I have tried everything from running as Admin and in Windows 7 compat. I have deleted the entire program only for the updated to patch to the 2013.12.12 version and error me out before I can even update. Then I got desperate. This is where despair helped me and I bring to you the only work around I have found:
Step 1:
Open the Command prompt. You will need to preload two commands. Go ahead and type and enter: ipconfig /release and then ener ipconfig /renew. Leave this Command prompt open!!!!! Now reconnect to your internet and lets move on.
Step 2:
Run the FFXIV program. Now the next steps only apply if your launcher takes a few minutes to give you an error. If so then awesome.
Step 3: SPEED IS KEY!
Immediately after opening move back to your command prompt. Hit up on the arrows and hit enter when you've brought back up the ipconfig /release. When this happens the launcher should have verified and moved on to the actual log in screen (If you are fresh installing like me it will have moved you to the terms and agreement page.) QUICKLY hit up again until you find ipconfig /renew and if you did it fast enough you will reconnect and the launcher won't error you out.
If this works you will have bypassed the error all together and have access to the log in screen. I am currently patching and hoping the patch fixes my issues. If not I will attempt this work around and if it continues to work and this work around works for others maybe someone can write a file to make this happen when you open the program every time until square fixes it. I will update with my progress and if anyone else tries this and it works I would like to know. Thank you for reading this and I hope this helps.
Also, if you know of a 100% non-retarded process to fix this please let me know.
worked fine this morning...now nothing. Se get your crap together im getting sick of this!
So I was able to patch the game completely. It let me log in and run the game. I closed the program and then reopened it and it still gave me the error. I then tried the command prompt technique and it lets me get in every time. So this could be a very annoying but temporary fix until they fix this issue.
Ok this is for anyone who wants to make a batch file for their game.
1.First off we will start by getting information on where your ffxivboot.exe file is.
Right click the icon on your desktop and click on properties. When the window pops up you will see a entry box labeled "Target" Mine looks like:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\boot\ffxivboot.exe".
You will want to copy the entire text that is in that box INCLUDING the quotation marks.
2. Open Notepad. Then you will make lines of code that read as such
start "VNP" "C:\Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\boot\ffxivboot.exe" (This will ALL be on a single line do not copy this lol)
timeout /t 1
ipconfig /release
ipconfig/renew
exit
3. Once you have written the code you should like file and click save as. Name the file FFXIV.bat You can change FFXIV to whatever you'd like but that was an example.
You will want the program not to run as administrator so if you changed it to do so change it back. I hope this helps some people who are having this issue.
Now I reinstall the complete Windos 7 and it works. But I´m very angry, because I can´t play a few days and must pay for it. And the solution isn´t very well, but I didn´t have other ideas. -.-
And sorry if the english not very well, I´m german. But in the german forum you´ll get no answers.
Just coming in here to add something to this.
My sister had this problem, all these errors in the title though the last was different.
The game worked fine one day, she logged off, went to be and then the errors.
I went through this whole thread, took all the suggestions (the tech help ticket was no help at all FYI when she submitted one as the response had nothing to do with the problem or it repeated what was here).
I tried every single one on the list. Nothing.
We had to resort to deleting the game, making sure it was all gone. Reinstalled it and she could get in, but the beginning cutscene was so slow it crashed the game. She could not even get past it (and for those interested, if you reinstall the game or just put it in, you are stuck having to watch that long scene before you can log in).
So she had no choice to cancel her sub because she could not get the game to work.
She is dilligent on making sure everything is updated in regards to drivers and .net etc. So I am at a loss and SE is out of another sub from poor customer/tech service.
Been having the issue for two days now and have tried everything from previous responses with no luck at all...I would like to express my thanks to all those that have tried to help.
I just ended my first 30 days and have received the e-mail wanting me to start paying monthly, which I am happy to do as I really enjoy the game, but the game will no longer launch. I see a lot of other users giving advice but I see in over 15 pages of forums any of the devs giving any advice, that makes me feel they are not supporting their product at all.
I really want to enjoy this MMPORG but will go back to WoW if this crap continues. I implore Square Enix, at least acknowledge us that are struggling!
3 days of this same issue. ffxiv works fine on my old system, but trying to install on new pc and can't get past the unable to complete version check message. Tried all the tips in this thread; even went out and bought a fresh cd of the game -- all with no luck. At a lost at what to do now.
Now on week 3 of my quest to play FFXIV. Haven't even touched 2.1 yet, and this is starting to get me frustrated... I guess I'll try to reinstall windows 7 if it worked someone. Time to backup some files! :]
