The best thing to do is keep trying. There a quite a bit of "fixes" that have and haven't worked for people. The error is confusing as the symptoms point to corruption but the fact that trying over and over yields success indicates server infrastructure.

The problem behaves almost as if the patch/login server is under heavy load and when performing the boot check and version check it can't verify them and just errors out as a version check problem (probably a general error anyway).

It could also be a file corruption in your boot folder completely and only by replacing the files with "good" files will the check complete (why it wouldn't MD5 check the boot index, find the corruption, and repair/re download the files is beyond me. That would be far too difficult I guess. Every other company that hosts cloud data must be wizards).

It could also be a windows update problem (windows defender firewalling maybe? Update servers being overly filtered?)

Users that have this current problem can test this actually:

DO NOT LOG INTO FFXIV. Wait until after the maintenance tonight and try to log in. I have a sneaking suspicion that the server is doing some sort of DHCP reservation and DNS/hop static filtering on clients to maximize performance and reduce latency (prioritize certain connections). If the problem magically goes away, we know this to be the case and know it's a latency thing (which no one can do anything about). If not, it may be the other issues mentioned (firewall/update/windows defender/boot file corruption).

There was only ONE thing that worked for me and cleared the issue in the end: A new computer.
