Unable to download patch, insufficient disc space error

Sounds easy, but I was quite frustrated and gave up after 2 hours this morning to go to work.
The updater wants to install patch 2.2 on my C: drive, which has insufficient space and I realize that. The main game is installed on a separate drive G: that I use for larger games and media. I try to reserve C: for operating systems only; unsuccessfully, as it is too full to install this patch.
I could make room on C:, but then it would be full again after the patch download. My preference would be to direct the patch to install in G: in the FFXIV game folder. I could see no option to direct the d/l. Is there a command log that I can edit for this? Or any other patch source where I can d/l it as a file and install it, rather than using the updater?

i thought that the patch downloaded in the my games folder, but i may be wrong.
one thing that you can do is to mount the drive you want to use as the NTFS folder as whichever folder it is trying to install to. the other option that you may have is to make a shortcut to a directory on the drive that you want to use one directory hierarchy higher than where it is trying to install

When you install the game, it sets everything up in your user folder (My Documents, My Games, FFXIV... ). In theory, you might be able to change where your default "My Documents" or the entire user profile folder is located within your Windows configuration to point to your other drive and it might work out. May have to re-install for it to pick up the change though, IDK. A junction remap should work too.. but that's a big fat hairy deal to set up without a pre-configured tool.

You could try setting up a symbolic link (or symlink). Essentially what this would do, is make it appear as though the My Documents is located in the proper place on your C drive, but in reality, it is located somewhere else.
