Fave and Least Fave

This thread is simple. What is your fave thing about being a tank and what is your least fave. This could range from poor healers, too people using Gold Carby.

Fave: I just love tanking! I find it fun to keep hate and how much hate I can keep. I especially love when I get so much hate my DD's can let lose and they don't get hate. I just like to test myself and my limits on how much I can hold as well and how well. I am always trying every fight to hold hate more and better. This is my fave thing about tanking, holding hate.

Least Fave: Bad, uptight, or annoying Healers. You know which ones I am talking about. The ones that think they know how to do your job. However, they manage to suck at theirs. These are the healers that usually go AFK mid boss fight or just don't cure you at all. The relationship between a healer and a tank is a special one. This is why this bugs me! ol

Fav: Being needed, being a central part of any successful dungeon or raid.

Least Fav: I agree with you, people who think they know all about tanking and can't even manage to DPS or heal correctly. The other day I had a healer who chain pulled all of Sastasha, DPS'd until I was <25% health and only then would throw a heal (I ended up dying 2 or 3 times). The DPS all focused on different trash mobs and ended up pulling them off me and running around aimlessly while I was trying to get enmity back. Also there was no mechanic on the last boss... because no one interacted with the pools. I just grabbed the adds as they spawned and tanked everything.

I agree with this 100%. So many years raiding and so much time being stuck between the legs of giant bosses. /cry

Favorite thing - Wrestling hate with awesome dps. Don't get me wrong, no one likes overzealous dps. But when they're good and and you're on top of your game as well. That tension is kind of exciting to me.

Hum hum...where to start...

Fave:
- Being able to take on multiple mobs and not worry about my HP being bursted down.

- Playing melee and being able to go head to head with bosses.

- Being able to keep everyone safe and allowing them to go all out on the boss

Least:

- Party members expecting me to already know where to go in an instance even if I state it's my first time there.

- Having to deal with people who constantly run ahead of me and pull mob aggro.

- Always being blamed if things turn ugly.

There's a few more to list in both areas but I'll leave it at that.

Fave: So long as you walk by my side, I shall protect you. Much like my main of white mage, I like the thought of holding the party's life in my hands. I feel important, like more than just a cog (which is how I feel when I DPS). Success or failure hinges on my own abilities, and that just makes fights all kinds of exciting.

Least: People who pull hate or get aggro, and then proceed to run around the arena, believing that by running away they're taking less damage. No, you're really not. On a side note, people who attack targets other than mine. I'd rather have my damage taken lessened by having mobs dead (Which tends to happen when we all pile on one mob, go fig) than by DDs in squishier armor dragging stuff off of me. At least, I tell myself they think they're helping my trying to pull mobs off me. I try not to believe my party members are so lazy they just target the nearest whatever and attack.

My Fav - Protecting my allies in battle, keeping the danger away from the dd's and healers.

Holding the hate, kinda like the OP said, testing myself. Being the backbone of the fight.

The cool heavy and shiny gear we get, especially the crown for us PLD's because we are kings!

Least Fav - My biggest annoyance when tanking is stupid hot headed dd's who go in guns blazing thinking they can take everything and then end up wiping. Which in turn makes the healers job harder and is less focused on me.

Also I hate it when healers wait until you're almost dead to heal you, I understand they might want to conserve mp or generate less hate but its not a viable excuse and its a big risk.
