It's at 185k online; at once. Not total population of the game. Total should be much higher and this is not including people who can't access the game. There's quite a few of those.
Reading iz hard.
That's 187k users online at the same time. Would have been more if the servers could have handled it.
usual estimates for MMOs are that about 10% of the actual player are online 'at peak'. so if we have 185k online at the same time, what does that mean? right, we have almost 2 milion players already. granted you can't take these numbers completely seriously right now since a) during release more people try to play right away and b) a lot of people won't end up actually playing past the initial 30 days free (or 2 weeks free for the 1.0 owners who didn't reorder) but there's also c) that not everyone is actually able to log in.
unless SE releases how many copies they actually sold at the end of the week or something it's going to be hard to find a factual number of current players.
I haven't even activated my game copy yet. Mostly because I've been busy reinstalling Windows 7 after tossing 8.1 preview out the window... but also because it seems that I'm not missing too much right now with the login restrictions
But next week I'll do my part to bump the concurrency up over 200k.
When you make a post, be prepared for people to disagree with it.
Actually having written quite a few news about "concurrent users" (not just about FFXIV), I've been surprised by how many people don't know what it means, even if I often write "people online at the same time" right after lol.
