If you get an error without using the VPN, it's either a problem in your computers configuration, your router/firewall/modem configuration or with your ISP.

Well I turned off my firewall momentarily to test that. It's not the problem. I'm using Comcast so later tonight I'll look into the modem and ports. If that's not the case then Square Enix might has a problem with Comcast.
I suspect it's an issue with Comcast because I have no issues playing any other games - Shrugs- But like I said I'll investigate further tonight, if I find or figure out a fix so people in my situation don't need to use a vpn, I'll post it.
My girlfriend is having the same problem! She can play FF14 anywhere else, but when she went home to play, she has Comcast, she got the 2002 error. Please keep us updated if you find a fix. She already talked to Comcast and they told her everything was ok on their end (supposedly), so who knows.Well I turned off my firewall momentarily to test that. It's not the problem. Update- I installed the client on my laptop, same problem. Modem configurations look all fine. It doesn't seem like the problem is on my end at all. I'm assuming this is a Square enix needs to sort it out with comcast deal.
for those of you with the 2002 error and used spotflux as a work around try changing your dns settings to dynamic in your router/modem settings it fixed the problem for me. hope this helps at least some of you
Just changing it to dynamic didn't fix my issue. After I did this and it didn't work I played around a little more. I added a DDNS and changed my routers firewall setting to minimal from typical. After I did these two things it started working.
