Is this your first trip to Limsa Lominsa? Reverse choice effect.

    NPC name: Grizzled Passenger Brennan/Brendt/Bremondt
    Area and coordinates: Intro sequence

During the intro sequence, the grizzled passenger asks the player if it's their first trip to Limsa Lominsa/Gridania/Ul'dah respectively. Presumably the answer "Yes" would be for new players who haven't played 1.0, and "No" would be for veterans of FFXIV.

However. What is supposed to happen is that if you say "Yes", it will toggle the ingame help menues so that new players get some help with how to play the game.
This is currently reversed. Selecting "No" for "No, this is not my first time." will grant you the correct dialogue, with the grizzled passenger saying "Ah, thought not." but you will get the help menues.
Selecting "Yes" as in "Yes this is my first time." will make the menues not appear.

This is probably just an issue with the translation from Japanese to English, as in Japanese, negative questions are answered negatively, even when the answer is affirmative.

    In English it would be:
Q: "Have you never been to Limsa Lominsa before?"
A: "Yes, I have been there before."

    In Japanese it would be:
Q: "Have you never been to Limsa Lominsa before?"
A: "No, I have been there before."

Hmm technically, that's actually wrong. Asking; "Have you been to Limsa Lominsa before?" would generate "Yes, I have been there before."

That said, English speaking people are rarely that precise. There are people who would respond with "No, I have never been there." to that question asked as is in game, which from what you say would confuse the whatsits out of a Japanese speaker.

The thing is, the question is asking a negative, which is how you can catch a lot of folks out who aren't paying attention. It's a trick used by many a shady character to get their mark to give the wrong answer and get flustered.

I get what you're saying, but the examples were just examples. But it is one of the more confusing facets of Japanese.
The answer to "Don't you like coffee?" is "Yes" if you don't like it, and "No" if you do like it.
I don't know what the original Japanese line is. But the English one is the same as the thread title.
"Is this your first trip to Limsa Lominsa."

Answering Yes to that question disables help menues.
Answering No to the question enables them.

That can't be right. It has to be the other way around. Help menues logically have to be for the new players. Not the ones who have "been to Limsa Lominsa before."

Odd, I'm getting help menu with BOTH answers, I said yes for Gridania, and no for Linsa Lamosa, and got help menus for both characters.
