
You do realize that the servers are likely just VMs on a host, and not bare hardware. There is hardly a cost associated with bringing additional VMs online. If the servers aren't virtualized, then there is one point of failure right there.Why should SE risk hundreds of thousands of dollars especially in their circumstance? Why should they invest in more servers not knowing exactly how many are actually going to stay after the first week?
There has never been an MMO launch in history that did not have server issues in the first week. The most successful of them all, World of Warcraft had server issues that were just as bad.
Now that you all decided you're going to stay because the game is amazing, they will add more servers and spend more on their data centers.
