This worked for me:
Port forward all UDP/TCP ports to 55296-55551.
Port 443 UDP should also be forwarded.
Now this might screw something else up so dont blame me if it does. It gave me a stable d/l speed around 700kb/sec the moment I did it.

this is the answer. spread the word.

its obviously not my isp since all other p2p works
And even with port forwarding (which fixes it somewhat) its still incredibly unstable. (going from 300kb/s to 5kb/s to 50 kb/s every 10 seconds)
Their system is just really poorly designed.

Imo its broken.
I can have utorrent up and keep constant 500kb/s download and have it done, I start up XIV at same time and it goes 0-30-0-20-0 and spending ages at 0, with 6-7hrs estimated, Where has utorrent does it in like 30 mins.
you can find the torrent files in C:/ [user]/My documents/My games/Finalfantasy XIV/downloads/ffxiv/48eca647/metainfoYea mine says it requires 2 more hours -.- does the old way of doing things not work anymore, where I download the patch through a torrent? I can't find the patch file in my FFXIV folder anymore what gives? this is taking forever.
you can torrent straight from there, this particular patch is D2011.04.13.0000
I hope that helps you out

ps: once you have downloaded the torrent file, copy that file (on your torrent window, right click the torrent and select "open containing folder"). copy the file in that folder, then go to C:/ [user]/My documents/My games/Finalfantasy XIV/downloads/ffxiv/48eca647/PATCH and replace that file.
run ffxiv as you usually would, grin as it installs

wtf uploading at 120 kb/s and downloading at 0 kb/s.
What a piece of shit.

I agree i prfer the old school FFXI updater in PoL myself
Yeah, I'm just downloading the torrent as well. I've never really had problems with slow downloads. But, I'm not at my house and I don't really feel like dealing with taking care of the ports right now where I'm at lol.
