that cost difference is Sony not Square Enix

People get mad when they stick 60 cents in a vending machine and their bag of chips gets stuck. It's not about the amount of money.this shit is really sad the way people complain, if your saying your a paying customer as of today lets see how that works. the game was 29.00(CE doesn't count because you decided to pay for extra items)monthly service is somewhere between 13-15 dollars, so according to this you paid between 15-18 dollars for the game. ??? your bitching about 13-18 dollars seriously LMAO if your complaining about that kind of money
they do but thats not getting a product at all. do you know the average game cost $60 dollars and you only get maybe 30-40 hours of content. your getting way more then that here... way damn more
I do not know if you just have not played MMO's for very long or not. But the statement about no other games having it nearly this bad at launch is definitely incorrect. There are plenty that had it MUCH worse in fact.
Anarchy Online - Couldn't create accounts, couldn't setup billing, couldn't get into the game. When you could get into the game lag made it unplayable. A lightning storm would basically freeze everything except for chat. This went on for months.
WoW - Servers were full, massive queues and wait times, terrible lag, servers crashing. Again, it took weeks and/or months in some cases to resolve these issues.
Star Wars Galaxies - Servers not responding because of not being prepared for load. You could end up waiting for hours or longer to get into the game. Again, lag and missing content, numerous bugs once you were in the game.
Aion - Queues to get into the game took many hours in normal cases.
I could continue, but this is 1 day into release and claiming it is the worst at this point is ridiculous. If login issues are the biggest thing we run into it is already a smoother launch than many of these because of how smooth the game is once you are in.

servers are down for maintenace.....please SE get it right this time!!
30-40 hours of content is being very generous. Anymore you are lucky if its 20-25. Gone are the days of FF7/legend of dragoon where games had a fair amount of content for the price.
People don't value gameplay -- or their time -- the same way.
There are thousands of games that cost absolutely nothing in dollar terms. If the value of a purchase is measured in "hours per dollar" as you suggest, FFXIV:ARR is a colossal rip-off.

You guys cry way too much... 30 dollars wasted? I'm sure most of us have wasted even more on even more stupid things... Just wait till things calm down and settle in then you will look back and be like "I was so dumb in the past"

The EULA does not grant immunity. If a company offered a service and people paid for it, and they closed shop completely within a few weeks, they would be subject to a class action lawsuit or worse.Read the EULA kids. You clearly agreed to a product that service can/will have outages. If you can not deal with this you should have declined the agreement and sought out a refund then. Since you did not you have no right to cry about something you agreed to.
As for the fools claiming no MMO has ever had this bad of a launch... LOL you could not more clearly prove you have no clue what you are talking about.
S-E is effectively doing this with the 1017 error; they are saying that only a fraction of the paying customers are allowed to take advantage of the service. Where do you draw the line? When one player is denied service? When 10% are denied service. 50%? You get the picture.
All of this is moot anyways, none of you are addressing the true failure of this game; the lack of proper load testing during the beta.
