SE, please post to us telling us what is going on with the 1017 issue. That's all I ask.

I won't bother arguing the points people have already complained about at length. But many people are angry and coming to their own conclusions, even threatening to dump and crash JP servers. It should be very simple to tell us -what- precisely 1017 is and/or what steps are being to fix it. It would make us feel a lot more at ease. Right now we just feel ignored and cheated. Here are some questions you might benefit from giving a brief response to on the forums:

WHAT is "error" 1017?

Why is there simply not a queue, regardless of size? You cannot argue that limiting access further than a queue is for stability -- that is what queues are for already.

Why is it possible to get 1017 DURING a queue?

Why are AFK characters not booted from the server after a period of time? EVERY MMO ON THE PLANET has this feature, and for good reason. Even having a 1hr autoboot would prevent people staying in ALL DAY LONG.

Why, if servers are so full, is there no option to allow people to transfer their characters to a different one, at least during this initial period?

Why are there so few servers?

Everyone seems to feel your in-game content is very good. Please don't let server issues destroy the potential for success this game has. I know Square is having financial troubles. So please say something, anything.

Not SE but this might shed some light to the non-technical players.

"WHAT is "error" 1017?" -- It's an error indicating to you the player that you can't connect to the world because it's full; it also has an underlying meaning that it can't connect to the queuing service either because it's down, has a cap, or some other reason.

You cannot argue that limiting access further than a queue is for stability -- that is what queues are for already." -- There is indeed a queuing service but my theory is that it's down or unable to handle large queues (Think of 20k people lining up for food at a McDonalds or something everything has a capacity)

"Why is it possible to get 1017 DURING a queue?" -- Same Question different way, the service most likely crashed and burned resetting everyone.

This is also a feature that might require them to do maintenance on the server that they arn't prepared for yet (it's not something that can be toggled on magically).

This would require server support and might be a maintenance update.

"Why are there so few servers?" -- Saw a post on this about how the NA beta's didn't have the amount of population that the JP ones did and they used that data to purchase data center space. This is most likely an oversight from SE and I assume their finance and development departments are working on this as we speak. Provided SE is Agile this might get completed in a week possibly two but I don't know how Japanese studios operate.

Servers are to full people wanted to actually play this and they apparently want to lose customers by not allowing them into the game they paid for. thats where im at now. had this all early access and games out and its still going . people are just staying logged in its damn near impossible to log in at all..
