Change barding to chocobo

Where can i change my barding to my chocobo?
Must i progress in mainstory to be able to do that?

Under Companions you will see it on the lower right hand side.

You'll need to progress past ifrit in the main storyline and join a GC first I believe. I didn't even try to change chocobo barding until after I had done that but it has always worked fine for me when I have tried.
