After doing everything I fixed the problem you are having. The early access client I downloaded and played starting giving me ...has stopped working... window every time I loading into the game. I received an email with a link to download the client for preordering but disregarded cause I already had the client downloaded from early access. Seeing how I tried everything..my last attempt was to uninstall and reinstall using the NEW email link for the client. Now no more problems with ... has stopped working. Played my first full day without problem.

Short story, if you are getting Final Fantasy XIV has stopped working, uninstall and reinstall. Worked for me. Hope this helps!

I didn't have that particular update installed.
In fact, if I'm not mistaken, I haven't used Windows Update for at least a year until this problem came up.

Nor did I have any of the "problem" updates listed in that thread you posted, which include:
    KB 2843638
    KB 2843639
    KB 2859537
    KB 2868846
    KB 2873872
    KB 2876063

As for System Restore, that's one of the FIRST things I disable on any new PC. ;>
In general, I'd rather find the problem and fix/remove it than blindly restore back (which causes its own problems)!

Thanks for trying to help, Unch!

I wonder what would happen if I just removed ALL of the Windows updates and then tried. ha.
Dude...update your OS; as a software engineer in general the people who don't update their machines are the ones who have the most obscure errors.

Dude... we're talking Windows 7 here. Not Windows 98.

Anyway, WarBeast, I forgot to mention that when I uninstalled/reinstalled (about 3 times, ha), I thought of that too and reinstalled from the official link on the FF14 website, not the beta phase 4 client which was originally installed.

Seriously thinking about uninstalling/reinstalling Windows itself. ha.

Windows 7 is good but it still needs updates; especially libraries that interface with hardware (.NET, System Stability updates, etc.) it will usually pull those down from there. You loose nothing by updating so just do it.

Anyhow that exception is typically caused by accessing hardware (Access Violation on Memory) and based by your description it sounds like it's failing to build up the Video Device.

Download the latest DX9 Redist http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl....aspx?id=34429 and grab the latest stable drivers from AMD and hopefully that resolves your issue.

Well I got it working, but didn't fix the problem.
I just reinstalled Windows 7 64bit SP1. Now it works. Ah well.

Thanks for trying to help guys, and I seriously appreciate it.

I do want to say though that telling someone with a computer issue to "just update your OS" is poor advice and as an I.T. professional, I would be ashamed of myself if that's all I could think of.
