She managed to get it bumped up to Japan HQ on her second time of calling up support.Sorry to hear this, if your having a rather aggressive reply from support trying to pass the blame on you when the product's description describes otherwise (it never states that you might have a problem if you own a old account) then I invite you to do your best at keeping a cool head and get in contact with better business bureau or something similar for EU.
But this is only in cases like that described by Talaya, please do try to contact customer support first to let them know of your situation and see if you can't be compensated.
Please let us know if Japan HQ tells her anything differently!
I am not optimistic one bit.

I had to buy the CE edition as well, there was no way to upgrade at Early Access, and there still is no way to upgrade it for me. Also, no more Legacy status which I had in Beta, like wth SE. A MOD needs to respond to this thread, this is a ridiculous issue.

so i have an 1.0 account, if i want to use the code, i need to create a new account?

Yes, or register another FFXIV Service Account in order to get your CE Items... But doing this means you don't get your 1.0 character or anything else you have made on that account (Beta Phase 4 characters/Early Access and so on).
Can SE just fix this please it's so annoying, just want to register my CE ARR code and get my in-game items!

this is bullshit, never seen so bad of a start in a mmo, server craches are common, but this kind of things... if you buy the game today you cant even play bc you cant create a char... all of the eu servers are full
from their web page listing all the pricing options for the different versions of the game. If people stopped to read about the different versions, as in find out why there are 9 different versions of the game to buy, we wouldn't have this problem to begin with.

** The Collector's Edition digital upgrade offers customers the ability to upgrade their standard FFXIV account to digital Collector's Edition status via the “FFXIV Service Center” website that is scheduled to be opened at the launch of official service, which then grants the in-game bonus items included with the Collector's Edition. Customers in possession of the Collector's Edition for either version 1.0 or A Realm Reborn will receive these Collector's Edition items without needing to purchase the upgrade.
