I'm in the same boat, as is my partner who already opened her physical CE, and wants the loot, but she shouldn't have to fork over ANOTHER 20 bucks just to get her ingame stuff.

If anyone from Square happens to read this. We are not asking for much, most of us are happy with what we have paid for our physical or digital editions, and want the contents of whatever physical package we bought. All we ask is to be able to add the code to the accounts, not jump through another silly hoop simply because we bought your old game.

you can delete the service account and start fresh, but you loose the content that was on the account.

They could have also asked if you wanted to link the new registration code to an old account already active like with the PS3.

Or made all 1.0 accounts time limited and send us new ones to replace them, like with the Early access accounts.

Or, like I said, give us the option to simply put in the code in the digital upgrade service...

They had plenty of ways to avoid this situation.

Well they can go screw because I am not spending anymore more money on this crap.

haha i feel the same atm, so angry and annoyed i have a headache, and i cent even get online iether, today was a disaster..

This is the issue my brother is facing, we bought two CE copies, i had the 1.0 CE so i didn't need to use my key and gave it to a friend.

He had the 1.0 standard edition, and intended to use the ARR CE to upgrade his account, only to find now that you cannot do so at all, only make a seperate service account to use it. He's a legacy player, like me, so he's NOT going to make a seperate service account and not get to use his legacy character.

Please allow CE codes to upgrade existing accounts, make them usable in the bonus code redemption menu.

This whole thing just does not make any sense to me right now, I guess I am just angry. Oh well, hope you enjoy my money SE.

Hope they allow this soon. Bought the CE for friend and found out that she can't use it because she has an Version 1.0 Account.

They just keep making bone headed mistakes....

They completely changed how they do things. On FFXI If you buy a copy with expansions/etc You could add that to your preexisting account. But for some reason they decided to scrap this. Now on FFXIV If you buy the game and already had an account You can't use the code you got, on the same account. Instead you have to make a brand new account...which is just stupid....I can't believe they went with this. They should have sent me and everyone an email or message or posted IN BIG BOLD LETTERS DO NOT BUY THE GAME IF YOU ALREADY HAVE AN ACCOUNT OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE KEY THAT WILL UNLOCK ADDITIONAL ITEMS YOU MUST UPGRADE YOUR ACCOUNT! but nope...I just paid $49.99 from amazon and if I use my code it will make a brand new account....this is beyond lame. IMO it was an incredibly horrid launch and early access. Players couldn't use the early access and some til this day can't play the game...
