Hamlets were one of things that all of my former FF11 friends looked forward to interacting with.

Granted we can't do anything much with them now. But they had such great potential. Not just good potential, but great potential. It's like finding an old but well built house. Sure it needs some work, but it has good solid structure.

Hamlets were part of that structure in FF14 that we all recognized as good ... even if they were not 100% developed yet. There were far enough away from the City-States that it made sense that the city's military forces wouldn't reach them in time, and only adventurers in the area could mount a defense long enough for reinforcements to arrive.

Your imagination could visualize your linkshell holding the line at the western gate of Aleport against Serpent Reavers, while several random adventurers fight from building to building taking on Reavers that landed on skiffs and started ransacking the hamlet. Meanwhile a party of Archers are on the roof of one of the buildings ... picking off Reavers one by one as their landing skiffs come into range.

Anyway, maybe the "new" Development Team has something better than what I just described. If they do, I would very much like to hear "something" about it.
