You have to go through the caverns in Thanalan to get here, quite interesting.

Looks worse in person.
So they pretty much just making them own not even going to go with the old team idea? i mean that the reason we like it. Remaking it could be a big risk if we don't like it. I hope it still like what they said just diff....

It's good that the new team is willing to scrap ideas. Clearly the original direction wasn't working. If hamlet defenses were going to turn into a generic sub-par version of XI's besieged, there's little point in walking all the way out to them and back and no point in producing more mediocre-quality content just because the idea was thrown around and sounds, at face value, somewhat interesting. All around, the planning and direction in the past has consistently been random and halfassed, with the assumption that players would lavish praise on whatever they came up with.
Hamlet defenses probably represented more content that was simply below the genre's standards in 2011. We don't need substandard content as content. We don't need par for the course content. Sooner or later this game's going to have to excel at content instead of just going through the motions of building a MMO.
People are asking what this game is trying to BE and it's a valid question. Seems like we're still just going through the motions of building an average MMO. That is nowhere near the actual expectation.
Bliz would have cancelled this project and started over, after the final assessment was that its fundamental ideas just don't have enough potential to make it a stellar game.
The XIV devs need to take the same brutal approach that everything that's mediocre needs burned to the ground and redone. I doubt hamlet defenses were very talented content.
I really don't care what differs from the old team, to be honest all the old team did was say "lets make a game that doesn't learn anything at all from FFXI so that by the time we've spent 5 years on it, it will be almost done....hopefully!" What a joke.
The reason most of us are here is becuase of the old team. There ideas was great just needed more time to work out. The game did not take 5years to make they took at least 5years just on making crystal tools. Then took a while to make the ideas and such which they start around FFXI-COP release. They could not work on the game too crystal tool was done. By E3 when they show us first look of ffxiv it was at least 40% done then around 60 by gamescom so doing the math ya they needed at least 1year more from the release of ffxiv.
I just hope this new team does not make this game 100% casual if they go on like there doing now this game going to be known for being more casual then wow.

It was Tanaka's team idea to make this game casual friendly though, and it was Tanaka's team that decided to make this completely different from XI, even to the point where we don't have basic search functions. That is inexcusable to me. In a modern mmo market you learn from the previous game you made. I don't hate Tanaka, he may just be the scapegoat, but obviously someone wasn't doing there job, or else this game would have at least released with basic search functions, a party seeking feature all players were comfortable with,...I dont even care about content. Tanaka's team just blatantly acted like XI never happened when they made this game, and they alienated a lot of XI players their hugest fanbase. I remember playing XI with people while they were in the Alpha and they would be like "i'm not buying it, that game blows" and I thought they were just XI haters*, but seriously this game doesn't "blow" so to speak, but it isn't up to snuff, it isn't next gen, in general now the Japanese game market is 5 years behind the West (recent articles game informer, 4gamer, the metal gear solid guy jumped ship to america), they need to figure out how to make this game next gen fast. Who's fault was that, it has to be somebody's?
*an XI hater: someone who plays xi , will die playing xi, everything else sucks and will always suck because the money that went to develop it wasn't spent on xi.

Not once did I say FFXI was next gen, you should read my post again, in order to truly make a next gen game they needed to learn from XI and the mistakes they had made in that game, and what made that game playable still. Its business, if you don't learn from the past, wtf do you learn from?
They did learn. FFXIV is a thousands times better than FFXI.Not once did I say FFXI was next gen, you should read my post again, in order to truly make a next gen game they needed to learn from XI and the mistakes they had made in that game, and what made that game playable still. People who want FFXIV to harken back to FFXI have had their way and now we are getting auto-attack. Yay! Auto-attack, that's so next-generation it hurts! Let's bring this game into the next generation with auto-attack!
So how many up-and-coming games have auto-attack again? Oh yeah, like none. Because it's shit.
All of the systems in FFXIV were a response to the ones that failed in FFXI.
