At the OP and the others in this thread-I sincerely say that SE is messing up and is severely hampering their player populace. The fact that someone makes a generalized and sweeping statement as "Seriously though, they are doing everything they can except spending money on better servers." is jumping to conclusions.
Do we really know if their NOT doing just that? Buying and installing better servers? Or not doing so? If so, it would be good to have that announcement linked with several sources. Hear-say and rumors do nothing for the community.
My deepest condolences go out to the large Clans/Guilds/Unit's who are suffering due to this. And it's also affecting the smaller groups of friends-I've yet to even get one chance to play with my friends on Balmung, Gilgamesh or Behemoth. So we all just rolled on Hades for a bit. Either way, it's frustrating. For all of us.
Their bound to fix it at some point, by either patching up the login problems, giving a proper que-or what have you. I doubt Enix wants this kind of backlash, so jumping to conclusions is a bit over the top. Stay calm, and be patient for now.

A: Mistakes can occur more then once. Some of the best thought out plans or actions go to hell once inacted. They may not have suspected this issue to occur. A slew of reasonings could be applied to this situation. It doesn't change the fact they failed, though there is no reason to not let them fix it and we can get back to playing the game we enjoy.

A: Company's as a whole make mistakes. I'm not praising their action's, nor agreeing with them. It is a big messup on their part. The vitriol and toxicity present with players right now is though rather unwarranted. They FUPPED up, doesn't mean we got to act like a brigade of babbling baboons and fling our dung everywhere. Act like adult's and work on a solution, rather then just acting like mentally challenged mice.

A: That's rather up for debate at this point. They should keep us more informed-but as a manager(Non-related to SE), they probably are freaking out and trying to do damage control on the lower levels. While the leader's are going "Push on" with the project. Maybe the lead's are not that way, and their just not thinking this through. We don't know. And I think that is the main reason why people are SO frustrated. And I sympathize, I'm on the same boat. So are my 10+ friends who have been b*tching at me for day's now.
I want to have some detailed information on WHAT their doing for us, and what they are going to do to fix this issue that keeps popping up. I think a lot of people would cool off once details are released.
